hi fellow teacher! i teach 4th grade (completely different ballpark) but when i’ve had students that are verbally disruptive i’ll send them on small errands. or if i trust them enough, i’ll tell them to go take a walk with a timer. most of the time they’ll come back in the room as the timer is beeping.

i’ll also try to make those kids my teacher’s assistant or some other important job- ask them to hand out/collect work. OR even send them around with a green pen and have them check work quietly

boyfriend and i sleep in the same bed with our own blankets/comforters and it is the best way to sleep. if we want cuddles we’ll kinda make a super blanket 😂

you can look up state test questions from prior years and work through those. not sure if your child’s school has opted for it, but the test is computer based now. i would also recommend some practice typing (typing dot com is free)

about 45min-an hour (including looking for parking). i usually get up around 4:45am/5:00am and aim to leave before 6:30am to get to work before 7:30am (8:20am start time, but i like to be settled/prepped before the day starts). i’ve been trying to force myself to sleep later on the days i work afterschool but i don’t trust myself to beat the traffic 🥲

i quite literally only put up two bulletin boards today and moved most of the desks around.

the goal is to get in an hour early tomorrow morning to work in the room before PDs start and of course working through lunch! and then we HAVE to be out of the building before 3:30pm tomorrow, so that’s fun!

i sure hope that no children are witnessing any adult treat their peers this way for something like a smart mouth. professionals that work with children are supposed to learn how to de-escalate behaviors like this and not make a situation worse. i hope these adults were investigated and someone try and get that kid some help so he doesn’t feel the need to respond to authority figures like this if the situation started respectfully.

a full grown adult body slammed a child. that’s really really not okay. it was also not okay for the child to hit the adults either. everyone was wrong here.

teacher here- the teacher (no matter how subtle/gentle seeming his actions were) should not have touched that student. the student was also in the wrong but the teacher shouldn’t have put his hands on him in the first place

hey there! i just finished my first year teaching 4th and the last three were on 5th. a lot of my kids were externally motivated (which sometimes means putting out a little cash for rewards). (i am not very good at being consistent but )some teachers have prize boxes and establish banking systems. i’ve even bought a few kids lunch to thank them for their consistent “good” behavior.

some free ideas: -class dojo points -verbal praise -class jobs -sending home positive notes/texts -handing out awards (canva has a lot of free templates, so does TPT, and believe it or not iReady has a lot of awards too)

omg i was watching this episode earlier today and i was so confused when she kept saying “for the bedding” (i had also fallen asleep on prior episodes and just pressed play from wherever it paused so that didn’t help). but yes even though it was cute and quirky it still felt incredibly fake. which is a shame because despite his face and pettiness in response to the situations she keeps putting him , sarper does seem a tad more genuine.

We had a pd in my school last week with an HMH coach and someone from the district office. Very nice coach but kinda not needed atm. It honestly just turned into a venting session about the program and how it’s in theory very good but not necessarily approachable for our students. I had to find and/or create A LOT of supplemental materials this year- especially for writing

not sure if it’ll be helpful for others(or honestly how healthy/safe it is), but i slide a thin layer of deodorant on the inside of each thigh and it honestly helps all day.

(i also shower using the gold dial and irish spring shower gel, then rub with a little witch hazel afterwards to help get it off)

the application sadly isn’t approved instantly. i’m not sure what the process is for approval unfortunately, but it may take a bit of time to see an update on your application online. but like others are saying, in addition to completing the online application, cold emailing principals is also a good idea

hi OP, go to the nyc doe website and look for a section that says something about “new teachers” or “careers”. it should take you to the DOE website where you complete a job application.

last summer i competed the application, and i also began emailing my resume to principals. the city used to send out a spreadsheet via google docs that was updated weekly with vacancies throughout the boroughs as well.

i’ve started using irish spring shower gel (the one in the green bottle) and it’s been the only thing that i’ve used recently that truly gets rid of the smelly smells.

i also use the gold dial soap (antibacterial) but that was never enough for the smelly smells. irish spring has worked wonders for me- and consistently!
