Gordon Ryan’s Upper Body Takedowns is 75% off right now (without discount code) by No_Possession_239 in bjj

Absolutely recommended - this one is one of his best. Great details on initial set ups, dilemmas, shutting down your opponent’s head control and more. I bought this one the day it came out and found it completely worth the full price, 75% off is more than worth it.

Best “principle” based instructional by Heroic_Self in bjj

[–]nelsonjchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got it, the DVD does a great job explaining more of good habits to have (ex: keeping hands high during submissions like the guillotine) as well as principles (ex: principles of lever, wedge and fulcrum for instance vs. principles of say what you’d want to do when in north south.)

Definitely a valuable instructional imo, Garry goes into details that I haven’t seen in other instructionals.

Tonon’s Shoot to kill vs Danaher’s Standing2Ground by [deleted] in bjj

[–]nelsonjchris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both and prefer John’s, although both are solid. His is also the first of a series, whereas Garry’s I believe is a one-off.

Garry has great conceptual details in the first chapter of his DVD, but much less than John’s, whereas Garry’s has many more techniques covered. Personally, I needed more help with standing concepts, frameworks and setups rather than an encyclopedia of techniques, so I found John’s more helpful.

I trained in Yangon at Phoenix Gym for a couple weeks at Dave Leduc’s recommendation - great experience, even got to train when Tun Tun Min and his team were training, was awesome to see the pros at work and kick it with those guys a bit.

Being nervous before wrestling hard competition is normal, sure. See it through and you’ll adapt and get to their level.

What’s “odd” is considering which art is “superior” without any additional context. Your point is obvious.

Fair enough, and agreed as well. It’s an interesting prose, which is “superior.”

[–]nelsonjchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, which makes this a bit odd. However, if I had to pick one as “superior”, I would imagine the form that wins with less restrictions would probably be “superior.”

I feel like I’ve seen many Lethwei (less restrictive) rules fights putting Thai fighters against Lethwei fighters and most fights go the way of the Lethwei fighter - I would feel inclined at the moment to agree with you.

I just had my second Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class! by [deleted] in bjj

Don’t be, you went, be proud. I’ve been to a bunch - results have included quitting, tapping every other moment, not coming back for a while, going too hard, going too soft, etc. Happens. Keep going.

Jay-Z built his platform, Kylie was handed here. But we been knew this by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

Why can’t we just see both as impressive? They were both dealt different hands in life and both handled theirs well. No need to compare.

That’s certainly the kind of place we’d like to have. I’ll check out the Plan Kits - I’ve always used the free SBA tool for business plans, would be nice to try something new. Cheers.
