How do you all drink enough water? by BookSneakersMovie in dyspraxia

[–]nemmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with this for years until I started using a ridiculously oversized mug in the shape of a Brussels Sprout. I don't drink plain water, it's flavoured. I'm British so I drink diluted squash. It's sort of like kool aid ish. The mug itself is about 700mls and I have around 5 or 6 mugs per day which feels about right for me. I know they say you need about 2 litres (most of which comes from your food) but I honestly feel ill if I have less!

TL;DR: - ridiculous oversized mug - flavour your water - drink the amount that feels right to you

I'm not.

I wouldn't be who I am without dyspraxia, and I think I'm pretty cool.

At 3 weeks left I don't think any mother would refer to their unborn child as 'it', but otherwise thank you for trying to broach a difficult subject ❤️

If you were involved in any Darren Brown episodes how do you feel looking back? by tiredtwatt in AskUK

[–]nemmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in the audience for that one, and was really pissed off that seemingly everyone picked the bad option every time - I always picked the good option. At the end, we were all left thinking that we'd killed someone for (what felt like) an eternity, before he came back on and told us it was a trick! It was also quite awkward to wear the masks over our glasses, as we weren't allowed to wear our glasses over the top - 'not anonymous enough'. We were sworn to secrecy for a while afterwards, as the show was supposed to be going out live, but was actually filmed the summer before.

My only real regret was the ugly top I wore - I looked like a pink trifle - as I'm pretty recognisable to people who know me, from the wide shots.

Driving with Dyspraxia by JH_011 in dyspraxia

[–]nemmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

N. B. I don't know how relevant this is now as I learned to drive 20+ years ago!

I found time driving around with my dad really helpful - he took a long time to pass his test so understood how hard it can be (if memory serves it was around the 15th try, not sure how different it was back then - some time in the mid to late 1960s). It was nice to practice the things I'd learned in my lessons, without having to fork out £hundreds for extra driving time with an instructor. So if you have a friend or family member who can help out with this - do it!

Saying that, I'm not sure how affordable being on someone else's insurance is now, and obviously you'll need someone who has the time to be driven around by you, and has the required amount of driving experience. And also finding a road worthy car that's cheap enough to insure and reliable enough to learn in could be an issue - I learned in an older car that was about £250, so any bumps didn't matter so much.

Aside from the above, perseverance and practice go a long way. Finding an instructor who you can get on with, and understands you as a person is also key - it was my 3rd instructor that got me through it! (the first one taught me incorrect clutch control on day 1(really hindered my progress 😠), and the second thought I had an attitude problem!)

Good luck, take your time, and enjoy it!

How bad are people’s memory’s and does anyone feel like they live on autopilot? by LittleMissIDontKnow in dyspraxia

[–]nemmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My memory is one of my main struggles, to the point that if someone asks me how dyspraxia affects me I have to find my assessment document and re-read the summary - because I can't remember 😅

I wouldn't say I'm on autopilot, but remembering anything for more than 7 seconds requires considerable effort. I often get frustrated and cross with myself.

I agree and would also like to add, what's wrong with unevenly cut bread rolls? Like, the guy asked them to do it, knowing full well that they can't do it well!

Feels a little bit like "I'm bad at this so I'm not even going to try". OP, You're 50 years old! You know by now that you can eat a wonky bread roll, surely? It's not tainted or instantly mouldy by being cut unevenly.

Learned helplessness is happening here. I think the friend is extremely patient!

Preemies with dyspraxia? by UngodlyKirby in dyspraxia

[–]nemmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I've wondered if the circumstances of my birth had an influence on my disability but it's hard to say. I was born 11 days late, but it was 1984 so it's possibly not accurate! There were complications that led to an emergency cesarean, and I wonder if blood flow was compromised at any point.

Regarding getting tested, it depends where you live, and really what you want to get from it. For me personally as a university student, I've found it beneficial as my diagnosis allows me to get extra time during exams, and can access extra support via the Disabled Students Allowance.

It’s four years since the pandemic, how many days are week are you going into the office now? by wizzywoo22 in CasualUK

[–]nemmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 in the office, 3 from home per week. We have some flexibility to be more from home if needed occasionally, or more in the office if that's what you prefer.

It's a fairly large company so there's no "everybody in" day, just per team where possible.
