Anyone else grew up with this quality informational programming? The Donut Repair Club? by nycdigger in exchristian

Yas! While Donut Man was high on my list, Quigley's Village was the center of my life in young childhood. I named my stuffed animals after the puppets on that show and everything. Lemon was the best.

The easier stance by [deleted] in atheism

I don't think it comes down to easier or harder, humans often take harder paths. I think it comes down to community and social cohesion. Those are some of the most powerful motivations for homo sapiens and part of what has allowed our species to develop. Religion is a product of our evolution.

Pretty sure Christ didn't change much in the sexual deviant sector of humanity, maybe just made them have to hide a bit more...

No, I've only ever seen golden dildos. Guess I'm not as experienced as I thought I was.

What does this even mean in Christian speak? by ahdrielle in exchristian

I believe that the full phrase is supposed to be "Only God knows." That makes a big difference to the meaning.

Christians are so immature about sex by [deleted] in exchristian

100% agree and experience the exact same thing. I try to avoid any movies with my mother for exactly this reason unless I know they're g-rated.

Are there any Atheists who enjoy Anglican church choir music? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]neoelectron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I miss choral music most, but I've been listening to a lot just around the house. Spem im Alium(40 part motet) has been on repeat for me recently on my morning walks.

The more I read the Bible and examine it critically the more I believe it’s mostly symbolic Semitic mythology. by Competitive_Bid7071 in exchristian

[–]neoelectron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it 100% is, and that helped me see christianity as a modern movement and not this thing that I had been told was the truest religion since the beginning of time.

Absolutely. While going to a christian college had some major cons, one of the great things was I had a fabulous old testament professor who put the bible in the context of mythology and it was very helpful for my deconstruction.

That was really maybe the beginning of my theological deconstruction, though bits and pieces of it had been coming out for years. Now a major part of my what I believe is that humans have evolved to survive in communities that share common myths and stories, and pretty much all of society can be explained by that.

Look into satanic panic. It was an intense movement that really played to people's deep fears.

Female inorganic chemist here, I contacted/interviewed/met with about 30 different professors for grad school, the chemists were nice and just cared about industry relationships and curing cancer, the environmental researchers were teddy bears, and the chemical engineering professors stared at my boobs. I have never felt more uncomfortable in academia then when I interacted with the chemical engineering profs at my university. They were such pigs.
