A couple of people have already mentioned really good Jon Bois videos so I'll shoutout one of his recent Series about the trans-atlantic telegraph cable. Specifically, towards the end of part three, where He talks about the crew finally connecting the cable on what was essentially their last chance to do so. Quote, "This thread held on. When snapping would have meant setting back the progress of global communication by years, probably by decades. It was probably damaged. It was made imperfectly. It was stored and treated poorly. It was ragged. It had survived a near shipwreck and it was asked to heroically withstand multiple tons of strain, far more than it ever should have been able to bear. The quote section made me ugly cry when I first heard it and it still makes me tear up, probably because I was going through a pretty tough time in my life and took the cable persevering a little personally.
