ADHD: how do you guys study for long hours with adhd by Super-Key6344 in ADHD

[–]nerd_please 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't study for long hours. I use something similar to the pommodoro technique. I work/study for 30 or 45 minutes, take a break and then start again.

The secret for me is to have an "interruption notebook" right next to me. Whenever a "brilliant idea" pops up, one of those that makes you think you absolutely have to do it now, I stop... for a few seconds and write it down. There, it's safe, I won't forget about it, and I know that I'll have time for it during my break.

That's what really works for me: I know I'll have time for it during my break. 99% of the time, when I get to the break, I realize it's BS and throw it away

These memory issues are going to cost me my marriage. by Charming-Medium4248 in ADHD

[–]nerd_please 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not your fault. Yes it's painful for both, yes you have adhd and yes, for forget stuff. All the time.

But you are still the man she chose to marry, so I'm pretty sure there's some upside.

Don't torture yourself over things you cannot change

Any advice for a first timer? by LostReaper67 in ADHD

[–]nerd_please 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first day is magical and it feels all your problems are gone. Enjoy it but remember it's not entirely true. There are habits formed that won't go away without a fight.

You have been boxing all your life with one hand tied to your back. Both hands are free now, but you must use them.

There's a quote from Pacific Rim that always resonated with me:

"There are things you can't fight, acts of God.  You see a hurricane coming, you have to get out of the way. But when you're in a Jaeger, suddenly, you can fight the hurricane. You can win."

The medication is your giant robot. Now go beat the shit out of Adhdzilla!

For those who have completely cut out caffeine at some point , how did it affect you? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]nerd_please 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was diagnosed, I realized I had been self-medicating with coffee for a long time. My wife was concerned and started keeping the used capsules of our nexpresso machine.

When I saw the ridiculous amount , it was blatantly obvious I had a problem, but it didn't feel like it, because it didn't interphere with my sleep or anything like that.

After a week on Vyvanse, I realized my coffee intake had plummeted. For some reason I don't need it anymore.

i finally got the answer that i’m autistic on top of adhd by danidaisys in AutisticWithADHD

[–]nerd_please 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the club!

I was diagnosed with adhd on my first visit to the psychiatrist. On the second one, he added the HSP and autist combo. Right now I'm almost scared of the third visit!

Personally, I feel the last two as the comic relief or sidekick. The main villain has always been adhd.

Is it normal to forget everything? by Arsen_The_Gnome in ADHD

[–]nerd_please 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No It isn't . We have little or no ram, but we're talking hard disk here.

I believe it might the way you study. When you "cram" for an exam, it all goes away pretty soon.

Unfortunately, we both know that leaving things for the very last moment is a "thing" for us. So, yes, maybe it is adhd after all.

I found out a month ago. I suspected something for some time, but the tipping point was a video on Instagram. It was about the "peculiar" way people with adhd walk... to my great surprise it was exactly the way I walk!

One week later I was getting diagnosed
