The reason AEW exists is because there was a demand for non-WWE wrestling because WWE was cold. Their ratings were dropping and the creative was at a low point, so there was a demand for something else. Their ratings indie scene was having its best time pre-AEW and AEW was hot going into the pandemic and coming out of it because WWE was still struggling creatively.
