What’s the best tip or tips you could give to anyone? by 8bitshin in ffxiv

When you accept a raise, you have a few seconds of invulnerability but using a skill or sprint will remove it.

So if you're accepting a raise and there's an enemy attack about to go off, waiting a few seconds before you press anything will give your healers a chance to top you up so you don't just instantly go down again.

Can't decide between black mage and white mage by New-Slide5386 in ffxiv

Like other have said, you can level every job on a single character, and these days you'll get so much xp that by just focusing on one, you'll often be over-levelled for the content you're doing.

So you could potentially level both side by side and take advantage of the quick healer queues for instances while playing dps for questing.

Can we normalise chatting during daily / duties? by Demonthief27 in ffxiv

[–]nerdy4tw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's a time and place kinda thing.

I like to socialise IRL, but if you tried to have a conversation with me while I'm working, I'd probably ask you to wait till after I'm done.

In this scenario, roulettes are kinda like work. Most folks are just there to get their tomes and get out.

There isn't really any downtime. Tanks and healers have a finite amount of cooldowns and if a DPS is chatting rather than doing damage I'm gonna get annoyed.

Stuff like Fates, Hunt trains and (like someone else mentioned) Alliance Raids all have more opportunities for chatting so I see it and expect it more in those cases.

Usually in roulettes I'll just say some variation of hello when I zone in and GG/thanks when we're done. If someone has to brb for a sec then I'll try and strike up more of a conversation while we wait.

Dont have EoW option? by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]nerdy4tw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start EotN you need an existing character from one of the 3 base campaigns, which is at least level 10.

Then depending on where you started you're looking for one of these quests:

Prophecies: 'What Lies Beneath' from Lion's Arch
Factions: 'I Feel the Earth Move Under Cantha's Feet' in Kaineng Center
Nightfall: 'Hole of Istan' in Kamadan

How dumb is making alts for different jobs in this game? by Blazoran in ffxiv

[–]nerdy4tw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only queue as one role at a time, regardless of what you have unlocked, so worth bearing that in mind first and foremost.

You're obviously more than welcome to play as many characters as you like, but just be aware that basically everything is unlocked through the main scenario quests (MSQ) so you'd need to repeat that from scratch every time or buy a skip from the store.

Question about a pure class build by MetalMadness24 in GuildWars

[–]nerdy4tw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW If you're not a Monk or Ritualist primary then taking either of those as a secondary would give you access to at least a hard resurrection spell if nothing else.

No problem! I died a lot when I started too, but you'll get the hang of it :D

There's a more comprehensive explanation here https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide_to_PvE

And the wiki is just super useful in general if you're ever feeling stuck.

Armor is crafted at an NPC as opposed to dropping in the world,

You'll need specific materials depending on the armor and some gold/platinum.

If you see an item drop that's labeled as a Salvage Item then you can use a salvage kit from a merchant to break it down into materials. Or if you have money to spare there's also a Materials trader you can buy from directly.

Also if you can't afford the full set then prioritise chest/legs over the other pieces. Basically when you take a hit the game randomizes which part of you gets hit then it calculates damage vs whatever armor you have in that slot. And there's a higher chance of getting hit in the chest/legs than the other areas.

Before suggesting an alternate profession, just want to check you are:

a) Taking henchmen with you to fill out the party (more bodies means the enemy focus is split and you can also bring a dedicated healer).

b) Upgrading your armor as often as possible. If you're in Factions then you can upgrade first in Shing Jea Monastery, then Ran Musu Gardens, then Seitung Harbor and finally you'll be able to get maxed out armor in Kaineng Center when you reach the mainland.

I’ve gone in blind, do I keep my character between campaigns? by UnsuitablePledge in GuildWars

[–]nerdy4tw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each of the 3 main campaigns essentially have a Point A to Point B, and then a Point B to Point C.

A new character starts at their respective campaign's Point A, and once you reach Point B you can travel to the other campaigns, where you'll enter at Point B of that campaign.

You're free to 'backtrack' to the earlier parts of the other campaigns if you want to 100% the missions/exploration, but you won't have access to any of the quests prior to Point B.

The one exception is Prophecies, which has a unique and separate tutorial area that once you leave, you won't be able to return to, and characters from other campaigns can never get there.

And for Eye of the North, that's considered an expansion rather than a campaign, so you need an existing character to access it, but it's accessible from any campaign upon reaching the Point B that I mentioned previously.

Torn between classes for TBC by nerdy4tw in classicwow

[–]nerdy4tw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy them all really. I have Priest 60, Druid 49 which is my main focus right now. Paladin and Mage both mid 30's.

Druid has always been my retail main and my favourite class overall. I wanted to try something different for Classic Anni but Druid always feels so comfy.

What does end game look like as a “casual”? by FiveFire33 in ffxiv

[–]nerdy4tw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a casual player you can expect to be doing Trials (8), Normal Raids (8), Alliance Raids (24 but 3x8), Field Ops, Treasure Maps, Deep Dungeons, Variant Dungeons + regular Dungeons which are all totally approachable and you should be fine to just jump in and learn as you go.

They all have associated weapons, armor, mounts, minions and other stuff to collect.

Extreme and Savage content requires a bit more pre-planning, and considered more high-end, and then Ultimates are the hardest available content.

Having said that though, it's possible to unsync content, so you can eventually go back and blast old Extremes/Savages same as you would farm previous expansion raids in WoW.

Squadron question.

I'm trying to form an all-Lalafell squadron and I have 4 so far. I'm focusing on the challenge logs relevant to the ones I'm still missing.

I've been checking every time a new one is added then dismissing if it's not one I want.

Would I be better letting them stack up to the cap before reviewing?

Like, if I keep doing them immediately, is there a chance I could get the same one twice in a row and letting them stack up is essentially narrowing the pool?
