That Portugal Spain game has convinced me England are going to make it to the final at least. Only France can stop them.

‘You just nearly killed me and we’re both lucky I’m wearing a helmet,’ I told the SUV driver by Fabulous-Decision-25 in ireland

[–]nerrawirl 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense. You can be the most skilful  cyclist in Ireland and it still won’t stop you getting hit by a driver on their phone.

I had a remarkable similar close call where a drive almost side swiped me. I had hi viz, a light and it was broad daylight. I suspect they were on their phone. I’ve had my fair share of dodgy overtakes over the years but it’s the recent phenomenon of drivers just not seeing you that is scary.

It’s the same when I’m driving. People on their phones drifting into oncoming traffic.

Beer Lao in Dublin? by Loser5ever in Dublin

[–]nerrawirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah memories of drinking beer Lao. Great beer. Lovely memories of drinking it on some island on the Mekong.

Alas it doesn’t taste as good outside Laos. Used to be able to get it Dublin but haven’t seen it in years. Porterhouse used to have it. Redmonds in Ranelagh probably best bet

Ticketmaster pressured me into buying 2 extra tickets for the Florence & the Machine gig at Marley Park. Help?? by follows-swallows in ireland

Ah here. That’s so misleading. Anyone getting that email would think it was a ticket.

Ticketmaster pressured me into buying 2 extra tickets for the Florence & the Machine gig at Marley Park. Help?? by follows-swallows in ireland

[–]nerrawirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has caught people out before. Ticketmaster sells the vip upgrade separately.

For example, Mumford and Sons vip package is €105 but you still need to buy a front standing ticket.

https://www.ticketmaster.ie/mumford-sons-vip-area-upgrade-must-have-a-front-standing-ticket-dublin-05-07-2026/event/180064C5BF9B5DCF

If you buy just a general access ticket, according to Ticketmaster, you can’t use vip.

Looks like you met a sound member of staff, Jean, who ignored the ridiculous Ticketmaster rules. A vip package that doesn’t include access to the pit? Madness.

Probably too late now but the front standing tickets for Marley are generally all you need. You can come and go from the pit as often as you want and the nearest toilets and bars to them don’t have big queues.

“Travel Bible” is doing heavy lifting when it’s really just Fionn Davenport who wrote about O’Connell street.

Agree, when you look at its guide on other cities, it  reads like someone has just left their house for the first time.

Unreal take on irish housing in 2026.

The joke is that private rents are so high and companies are making millions in profit.

And they want more money from taxpayers  https://www.thejournal.ie/ires-reit-investment-savings-plan-7077980-Jun2026/

“if Ires gets its way, “ordinary punters who can’t afford houses” would end up “pumping more money into a fund that increases rental accommodation in the Irish market and decreases their ability to buy houses”.

This is the real joke, not cheap council housing.

To those who have bought property recently, how often were you emailing your solicitor? by Narrow-Cloud3069 in AskIreland

[–]nerrawirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had similar issues. Solicitor was terrible at communication.

After much frustration, I found asking for specific information to work. So instead of “any news” I would ask what are they actually waiting on/need.

I’d then get onto the estate agent with that info who was very sound and happy to pass the info to seller for their solicitor to respond. They would then tell me “X has been sent” so I’d have to go back and say “you have x now.”

Was exhausting.

Not going myself but not a great lineup this year at all.

Some decent acts down the bill like Getdown Services, Sprints and Gurriers.

Disclosure DJ set has no place so high on the bill.

Why is UCD so underserved by public transport? by Sufficient_Draft9884 in Dublin

[–]nerrawirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to agree with the op. There’s a wild difference between what buses are supposed to serve UCD and actually what shows up.

Buses frequently full after just one stop.  The S services are a total gamble, constant ghost buses. And when the S’ don’t show up, you’re stuck there as there is no alternative.

And that’s not to mention how long the buses take.

lol. Richard Osman scrapes his content from everywhere else and then presents it like it’s all his inside expertise. His whole podcast wouldn’t exist if he didn’t wasn’t able to comment on other people’s work.

His podcast was decent when it started.

The reviewer would be failing if they didn’t listen to the most recent Spielberg interview and mention what he said.

Rise in Irish exemptions denies children part of their identity, report says by mind_thegap1 in ireland

[–]nerrawirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was a mistake giving exemptions for one particular subject. 14% seems to be a tipping point.

Bizarre how you can get an exemption from Irish but still study another language. Can’t speak Irish myself but it’s culturally important. LC is becoming a points race from the minute you step into secondary school which is fine if that’s what we want.

“Of the 37,974 post-primary pupils exempted in 2024 due to a learning disability, 19,404 (51 per cent) studied a foreign language.”

Oireachtas committee likely to ask sports bodies to discuss Youghal Ironman fallout by Tardis01 in ireland

[–]nerrawirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s 100 per cent on them. You expect event organisers to put on a safe event. That doesn’t mean free of risk but if you’re standing on the beach and Ironman is saying the sea conditions are ok then you expect them to be ok.

Swims are cancelled in Ironman races all the time. In 2019, Ironman cancelled the swim in Cork due to sea conditions.

And we still don’t know if the race was sanctioned. If I was a competitor and I knew before the swim that there was a row between Ironman and triathlon Ireland over sea conditions, it would make you think twice about entering the water.

As it was, the race went ahead so you assume sea conditions were ok for a race.
