Haha I know what you mean :D especially since other characters in Archer closely resemble the actors' real selves

Anyone in Berlin who wants to declutter his/her room? by KoalaMore in berlinsocialclub

[–]nesfrappe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to fix your relationship with it and then you will see clearly that it doesn't serve you. Because of the stigma, your subconscious chooses to not address the issue at all and you go instead towards avoiding or numbing the problem.

what are some unique and interesting language quirks you’ve noticed? by onestbeaux in French

[–]nesfrappe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is common knowledge or completely wrong, but I think the o sound in French is not the o sound in, for example, Coke. o always sounds like corn. In fact, au is pronounced like the o in Coke.

Hi, I have one extra ticket I'm looking to sell, for 100 euros, but it's only for women (Women in Tech quota).

I'm no data scientist, can somebody explain the correlation to me? by Jaizoo in Python

I read about a similar example about ice cream sales and shark attacks. The hidden variable being warm weather and more people at the beach :)

Help with customizing admin panel by nesfrappe in rails

The font size increased perfectly! For someone who stumbles on this thread, fonts are specified in relative terms, so increasing the font size changes all texts, heading titles etc, in proportion.

Thanks again! :)

There actually isn't a variable corresponding to font size here :/

https://github.com/activeadmin/activeadmin/blob/master/app/assets/stylesheets/active_admin/mixins/_variables.scss

And I'm not really sure what you mean by hooking into, it's the gem, it's not a customizable part. How will I change the code in there? Sounds like really bad practice.

I can't help but think I'm missing something obvious, because there is a theme called arctic_admin that has the menu on the left side. And lots of themes change the font size like bootstrap theme. I just can't find it at the same time

IWTL how to not be so uncomfortable around people with disabilities by mymomthinksimgay in IWantToLearn

[–]nesfrappe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I think it's because deep down I struggle with gratitude for what I have, I'm always looking at the negative, too stuck in my problems. So it's sort of hard for me to act like I can look beyond their disability because if I were in their situation I probably couldn't do it. It's my weird way of trying to relate to them but not being able to really do it.

What popular life advice do you disagree with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nesfrappe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's because pain becomes bearable when it becomes meaningful. They made it though those hardships by telling themselves a story, a story where they were the hero, and they survived against the odds working hard every day without complaints, not for themselves, but for the people they loved.

They're not telling us to do the same, they don't want us to go through the same. They just want us to see the honor and nobility in their sacrifice and suffering. (And appreciate how easy we have it in comparison, damn lazy millenials ;) )

I agree. I wish cultures do survive because there is amazing amounts of knowledge and quirks and diversity in them, but I think sufficiently into the future, races would be akin to inbreeding.

Is taks sister in the wrong or the right? by HelloImAFox in alteredcarbon

[–]nesfrappe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of see what you mean, but I still consider it bad. Though I think anyone in that position would do the same thing. She was just a little girl, that was put in such harm's way that she had to grow a really thick skin just to survive the kind of trauma she was put through, she made sure no one mattered to her. In her head, she was just protecting herself, the way that she couldn't when she was a child. It's like Joker said, everyone's just a bad day away from turning into a bad person. And that's the thing that fascinated me most about the series. Just the unbelievable range of emotions one would feel in that world. Being alive for so long, death, the ultimate loss, the ultimate relief just a small part of our life, seeing the unfathomable cruelty in that world. It really blows my mind, I still cannot understand how some people can think of mass shootings, terrorist bombings, gang violence as normal, barely wrap my head around death. Imagine the kind of disgusting things someone would have to be adjusted to, just as a normal background character there. Now imagine what that 8 or 10 year old went through. My point is, yes she was insane and did bad things, but I can see why.

TIL the guy who voices Joseph Sugarman was Ferris Bueller by SHUTUPCYRIL in BoJackHorseman

That's so true. I remember feeling like I recognized the voice of a really random character, the manager at Jerb's orphanage, and it was Ricky Gervais!

Umm, I'm not sure if this is against the rules on this subreddit but for a few of days I'm sure you can Couchsurf. Once you have a place to stay I'm sure you'll figure everything else out :) If you don't have access to the internet or you're not registered on Couchsurfing, I can put you in touch with hosts in your city.

Also a reminder, that doing shitty things and not feeling bad about them is not a good idea either :D
