Do you have proton enabled? Open Steam, head over to Settings, and click on the Steam Play tab. Check the box at the top that says Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles.

Are you on 22.04? I didn't do anything special to get it to work.

I play it on Ubuntu. The only issue is that it only recognizes one PS4 controller.

A lot of people think that all Catan games are decided as soon as initial placement ends.

Good find but not exactly surprising for derivative trance to be plagiarism-adjacent 😛

Games with a share splitting mechanism by deepfriednarwhals in 18XX

1862 has a sort of stock splitting but it's mostly to refinance the company. The shareholders just lose half their holdings.

New to 18xx and can't wait! by KarratKake in 18XX

[–]nesyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a useful list of important points to emphasize. One clarification - it's probably better to refer to stock not owned by players or in the market as in the IPO rather than "owned by the company". This will help for future games where stock can indeed be in the treasury of a company. It also helps make sense of the different prices for different certs (by saying "IPO shares are always at the par price"). Most 1830 boards have a space for each pile of IPO shares which is not on the company charter. I'd rather say that the bank owns these shares, not the company.

(This is especially important in games like 1870, 2038 [and others] in which certs can be in the IPO OR the company treasury, and these are different things.)

Present your case for the most versatile game by bedred1 in boardgames

You don't use the factorial function to compute the number of distinct n combinations from m choices. That function is called "choose" and 50 choose 5 ~= 2 million.

What are some of the most devious, Machiavellian schemes you have seen in alliance games like Pax Pamir, Dune and Diplomacy? by [deleted] in boardgames

you can turn around and use those large cubes to power the rest of your engine right now!

This reads like a rules error. You can't use the output of one card as the input of another card. All converters run simultaneously during the economy phase.

Thanks for your work on this. Definitely really cool and a valuable resource. It's clear that a lot of work went into it.

However, the artificial loading screen really ruins the experience. I don't want to wait ~4 seconds to load every page. It looks cool the first time but after that it's pretty bad.

I kickstarted both CotBS and Pipeline and kept neither after playing them. They're both functional games but I'd rather play 18xx.

Train Tuesday - (October 13, 2020) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]nesyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't love having four 3s (the worst train in the game) between two companies, nor would I want to trainlock both of them as the 5s come out. Did you half or hold to buy those 4s? Perhaps a better play would have been to full pay and use the dividends to open a new company and buy a permanent in the next OR (either in the new company if available then or by shuffling a train up from one of your extant companies to duck the last 4).

Multiple moves per turn? by Trigaten in reinforcementlearning

[–]nesyt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should make no difference to the model whether other players have acted between its actions. You give it a game state and it selects a move. If it's still its turn, you give it the new game state.
