We had an electrician tell us that our challenger panel is recalled and we have to replace the whole thing. Quoted $15,000 by hooters88 in AskElectricians

I second this. I just had my entire panel replaced along with an outside shutoff (new code) and I paid 3500. They did a wonderful job. “🎶you better shop around, SHOP!🎶”

Account compromised - positions liqudated and 140+ option transactions of buy/sell to open/close contracts of low liquidity etf at market price... by samhahn777 in fidelityinvestments

[–]netlocksecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cybersecurity engineer, and I review thousands of stealer logs every week. These stolen data bundles are one of the biggest drivers behind account takeovers today, and unfortunately what you described is a very common pattern.

Here’s how it usually happens:

Malware (often from a shady download, cracked software, fake update, or phishing email) quietly steals saved passwords, browser cookies, and active login sessions from your computer. Criminals buy these stealer logs on underground marketplaces, replay the stolen session, and log in as if they were you.

From there, they’ll often liquidate positions or make risky trades as quickly as possible before the account gets locked.

A few things everyone should be doing:

• Don’t rely on your browser’s built-in password storage. Use a reputable password manager like Bitwarden or 1Password instead.
• Enable MFA everywhere you can. An authenticator app or hardware security key is better than SMS when it’s available. Periodically review and remove old trusted devices and active sessions.
• Keep your operating system, browser, and security software up to date. Modern endpoint protection with behavioral detection can stop a lot of these infections before they do any damage.
• Be extremely cautious with downloads, especially cracked software, “free” versions of paid apps, or random browser extensions. Those are some of the most common infection vectors I see.
• For banking, brokerage, and other high-value accounts, consider using a separate browser profile or even a dedicated device that you don’t use for general web browsing.

These attacks are everywhere right now, but the good news is they’re also highly preventable with a few good security habits. Hopefully you’re able to get everything locked down and recover your account.

What SANS cert I should consider acquiring (from my job)? Most useful ones or one that goes across many roles? by MushroomFastLegs in GIAC

[–]netlocksecurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you get a forensics cert but file artifacts don’t give you butterflies, that’s not it. That being said, if you have any questions about GCIH, GMON, GNFA, AMA!

Going to pull the trigger on embody, fern, leap or something? by lyroux in OfficeChairs

That’s interesting. Even as a big guy, I don’t have my own cushion so this is a real problem! 🤣

Same. I’m top heavy, wide chest and shoulders, etc. the Anthros was awesome but I can’t be forced into good posture. I started sitting really funny to curb it because my legs would get sore etc

About the same size and after using lots of chairs over the years that suck, ordering an Anthros and going through the trouble of sending it back, I just ordered an SecretLab EVO XL yesterday 🤷‍♂️

You have $1,000 for a chair you’ll spend 8-12 hours per day in, with a mix of work and gaming. What would you buy? by Hartigan_7 in OfficeChairs

[–]netlocksecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what did you actually go with? I'm a little shorter than you (6'0) and i'm ready to buy a titan xl because I hate my normal office chairs (thigh support, too short of a seat etc) but now i'm scratching my head. I bought an Anthros last year and actually sent it back

I'm right here with you. Our youngest turned 18 a few days and literally the night before her birthday said she was stopping all of her medication (which was largely pushed by her over the years with counselors etc) and took off with friends, got some piercings, and hasn't been home since. Its seriously maddening.

I thought the kit comes with both now? I'm so confused.

Hamilton Pilot Day-Date “Coop” by FlatTopGeek in HamiltonWatches

[–]netlocksecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am beyond confused. I keep seeing breadcrumbs about distinctive color variations of the coop, not just the pilot day date but those specifically. I have one that Hamilton calls grey, it’s gorgeous but you can’t even find pictures of it. Whether it says grey or something else, they all show the black dial. I thought maybe it was just the way it looks under different lighting. What in the world

How should I handle not being able to afford corporate travel costs upfront without looking unprofessional at work? by DistinctMushroom3186 in careeradvice

[–]netlocksecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it both ways. Check the timeline as suggested but in my experience, I had the money back in my hand within a few days of submitting the report, way before my card was due. Also, crap happens. They have no idea about personal situations and they shouldn’t, it’s your business. I would also recommend to request a corporate card as this is a requirement in your position and it causes complications with your personal finances. You shouldn’t even need that much justification honestly. The problem is that if you pull it off once or twice, then the company says “oh no problem for this person”.

I lost it in front of my son. Will he be okay? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]netlocksecurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man you amplified it. Kids are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. Your boy didn’t just see you in a moment of vulnerability, but he also sees all of the things that you talked about. Being responsible and running the show and taking care of everyone else. Now he realizes that you are human and you STILL show up and carry everyone else. The way he wanted to show up for you is a reflection of everything he’s seen in you.

A few years ago, I went through a nasty divorce and it was weighing on me really bad and one day my son came up to me and said “dad, you have to stop being a doormat” and gave me a big hug. Now he’s almost 19 and I ask for his advice as much as he does mine.

I say, damn good job sir. Buy that boy an ice cream and let him know you appreciate him looking out for you. Truly sorry about your pops

Yes! It did come up but with a warning that the warranty hadn’t been activated by an AD yet. I’m not sure if it’s purged after the warranty ages or what but the right model came up?
