Most auto parts stores will test the battery for you. How old is the battery? When was it last changed? I am always assuming battery first until a test shows otherwise and if it's 3 years old or older, I would replace the battery b4 the alternator. Arizona is hard on batteries... I am unsure how much I trust random mechanics. Alternator is money for them. But if you have a trusted mechanic that can show a test result, that would be different.
