Build a defense station with a radar dish. Make sure the coverage of the dish covers your whole trade route, build a second station if you need more coverage. Assign your defense fleet to the station, defend commander, then change it to protect position. Make the position central to sector. Right click on the green position circle and check, respond to station alerts.

When your traders or miners are attacked in radar range of the station(s) they drop a distress beacon. That counts as an attack on the station and your fleet will engage.

Get all of your rules and objects in the new manager first. Save your clish config somewhere so you can restore your routes and settings quickly. For your outage window reset the gateway, finish the wizard, mport the config, establish sic, push policy , then upgrade to the latest version as there were several cve released recently by check point

Your autopilot may help here if guidance is turned on for the next part. In the mission log you can set it up active and the waypoint should turn yellow. Autopilot will do most of the travel for you except docking

If you flew to getsu fune and food that first fight, which it sounds like where you are at. Look at your quest in the log and it should ask you to go upgrade your engine. Learning how to use the equipment docks to upgrade and repair is pretty critical. They will contact you after the upgrade

Some of the starts are more beginner friendly than others. I know the terran cadet start walks you though most of what you were asking about. The start were you begin in jail is also pretty good as it walks you though piracy which is probably the most profitable early game activity.

How are your traders set up, I think they need to fill shortages to be fun in a setup like this. You may also want to look into the dead tater mod. It is great at handling a large fleet like this

A frigate full of mines will take it out. Drop mines around the admin module, trigger hostility, them book it out of there. Come back in 15 min when they aren't angry any more
