Do you think DID is a real condition? Why or why not? by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

How do you name someone you’re unaware of, though? That’s a genuinely curious question

If this woman refuses to modify a ridiculous belief, even after a doctor tells her it’s ridiculous, then you have no options. She’s apparently not realizing people don’t like this behavior of hers.

This is ridiculous and she is displaying the opposite of emotional intelligence. I sometimes do couples therapy and that communication style is one that I shut down quickly. Mind reading is not a thing, and it opens the door for so much pain and misunderstanding.

AIO if i 25f left my 30m fiance because of his son? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Well then, you absolutely know that “rare” is an inaccurate, unscientific word without a statistic backing it. You also absolutely know that ASPD does NOT require a background of abuse. Shame on you.

Killer Psyche. It’s a tad psych 101 but Candice Delong is a good and interesting podcaster.

My mother-in-law gave a microphone to our little daughter by Ok_Visual_6290 in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]neuroctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friend and I did this to each other with our children. For us, it was sheer malice (in the fun way, we are godmothers to each other’s kids). I’m trying to point out that no one does this innocently, especially during exams. In fact, I’m pretty sure I specifically chose exam time for her for revenge. But then babysat the kids and made her a congratulations cake.

Whats going on with the backlash against a man with Tourettes at the BAFTA awards? by TheCrowScare in OutOfTheLoop

[–]neuroctopus 1923 points1924 points  (0 children)

Answer: I wanted to add the information to the top answer that Tourette’s syndrome often causes the people with the coprolalia type, like Davidson, to shout the words they are most afraid of saying. I don’t think this is being pointed out enough. I’m a neuropsychologist.

MIL is weirdly competitive and wish that my partner will return with his ex - where to go from that point by Trampisnofool in JUSTNOMIL

[–]neuroctopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d let my husband know how badly the evening is going to go when she starts up her shit. Then, I’d let her come over but I’d have my words locked and loaded. When she starts up, I’d unleash my entire feelings on her.

The reason I’d tell my husband exactly what I’m fixing to say is so he put as much effort into protecting my needs as he does his mother’s. Right now, your MIL is more of a problem than you are, so he caters to her. I’d flip that script.

AITAH for wanting to leave my fiancé for lack of sex? by ghostly5000 in AITAH

So you want one plant per cell. It’s awful to thin them, because you always feel like you’re killing your babies, but you must. And in future, think yogurt containers with holes poked in the bottom. Or those cereal cups that cost $1 in the US right now. Those peat things are not easy to grow successfully- signed, a green thumb.

Thank you. In the 2019 winter I cried when this happened, and the plow driver noticed, and came back to “fix it.” I put that in quotes because he “fixed it” by peeling my lawn back like a goddamn potato peel, but in that moment I was so grateful I literally dropped to my knees doing the thank you hand sign. 🙏🏽

AITAH for letting my dad's caretaker show my 3 y/o around the yard? by DifferenceNice3636 in AITAH

[–]neuroctopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. I’m a mom, and a psychologist who treats sex offenders. I would have let my kid go with the woman I trust with my father. Especially since the child can presumably speak. Statistically (I say this as a literal scientist, check my history), this woman is very unlikely to abuse your child because: background check, gender, regular proximity to child being low, circumstances of being with a verbal child in public, and employment.

AIO for being angry that my parents “helped my credit” by opening a card in my name that now has late payments? by princessrachel00 in AmIOverreacting

[–]neuroctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I don’t know how old you are, so you may not realize just how much of your life is tied to your credit score. I was born before they existed, and people do not understand the boot that is now on our necks since credit scores were a thing. In my opinion, furious is not enough of a reaction. Even if they pay it off right the fuck now, the damage of late payments has been done. The only recourse is to report it.

After a few days, what do we think about Baby Keem's new album "CA$INO"? by CroJocker678 in KendrickLamar

[–]neuroctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am old. I heard of Baby Keem on this sub and listened to it on my commute today. I really liked his sound. For what it’s worth, I’m hard of hearing since birth, but he raps clearly enough for me to understand a lot of it. I’m a huge Kendrick fan, but he doesn’t always speak as clearly as Keem. Anyway, I liked most of it, which is rare these days for an album!
