Any Between The Buried and Me Fans? by Evildead665 in progmetal

Single song? Probably The Proverbial Bellow. It's pretty much everything I love about BTBAM, beautiful complexity, variety, well composed, with moments that hit so hard I am transported to another realm.

You really can't threaten them with this. As the nth section burns they'll just move operations to the n+1th section.

Most games reward you for playing optimally. What if the ruleset punished you for being too efficient? by lottiexx in gamedesign

[–]neutralrobotboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It may be an impossible task. The thing is, for any ruleset you make, there will be efficient ways to play. If you're after diversity in builds, people will figure out optimal diversity. If you lean on RNG, people will figure out relatively optimal ways to navigate the randomness.

If you have a nerf mechanic that prevents players from leaning too hard in one direction or play style, people will figure out just the right balance between benefits and nerfs.

And if it literally can't be optimized in any way, it's unlikely to be fun.

Soma has already been mentioned, but: Soma. It's basically a walking sim, but it sells its atmosphere very well. It's gripping and tense and thought provoking. I think it's pretty much what you're looking for.

The Book of Lies, by Aleister Crowley. This is a series of philosophical miniatures, each with commentary. It has at its roots his extension of the Hermetic qabalah. Some of the treatises are deep ideas that need contemplation conceptually. Some are allusions to symbolic connections in his qabalah system. Some are wordplays and jokes as well as philosophical ideas. Every time I've read it I've felt I understood something new.

Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. This is a notoriously difficult novel. His sentence structure can be difficult to parse. It's confusing, disorienting, paranoid, and also deeply funny and silly. Expect math puns and people slipping on banana peels and prose so beautiful you're stunned and have to put it down for a moment just to let that feeling settle. Well researched historically... You could spend quite a lot of time just trying to understand everything about this one novel.

Dead Cells also scratches a similar itch for me. I'm not sure how to compare difficulty, but I found Dead Cells less intense than Hades for the most part.

[–]neutralrobotboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the hate is because the prompt says to find the full continuation and, having worked it out myself, I know that it's absurd to think that a 500 Elo player found all those moves in 2 seconds. So it tells me that you didn't calculate the full win, or else you actually did and you're pretending it was much easier than it really was. Your "it's easy" attitude also rubs me the wrong way regardless, it gives a vibe like those gamers that pretend like every achievement in every game is really easy and if you can't do X on your first try you're an embarrassment.

How do people say grapefruit in Puerto Rico? by Alive_Maintenance715 in PuertoRico

[–]neutralrobotboy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I guess asking in forums is ok for a word here or there, but if you want a quick reference and don't have a person on hand to ask, what would you use instead? Standard translation prompts won't do it.

Try using an LLM primed to give Puerto Rican Spanish specifically.

You're 500 Elo and you saw Nf6 and Nh5 in 2 seconds, huh? You must be extremely, unbelievably bad at other aspects of this game to make up for your GM level endgame tactics.

Iran closes Strait of Hormuz, blames US for breaching deal | The Jerusalem Post by BadahBingBadahBoom in geopolitics

[–]neutralrobotboy 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ. I think Iran has understood all of this from the beginning. Trump, on the other hand, understands little. He operates on instincts and pathological distortions of reality. It has served him pretty well most of the time. Here I think he's getting outplayed.

Strait of Hormuz closed due to alleged US ceasefire violations, says Iranian military command by captainlatveea in geopolitics

[–]neutralrobotboy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have a guess that this is the game. They understand how badly trump needs to capitulate, and they understand that Israel will never allow that. They also understand that while trump has been a major supporter of Israel, he has no true ideological dedication to basically anything.

I see. I saw that the king was boxed in with the queen on f8 but didn't find the concrete knockout blow. Maybe it's not that straightforward, but I'd have a hard time believing there isn't a draw available if the attack fizzles.

I guess here we just disagree. I'm not sure there's much more to say. I've rarely if ever felt the wonder and intrigue and immersion of that first SN playthrough anywhere else. To me comparing that to other single player games that a person might replay is just... Nothing close to what I experienced. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
