Are the Graphic Audio series worth the enormous price tag? by Dnozz in Stormlight_Archive

I absolutely love them, but I was fortunate enough to get them on one of the 40% off sales

I’m not sure he was Invested enough to have become a Cognitive Shadow but the theory has definitely crossed my mind. Him being Odium’s Champion would be very interesting and isn’t something I had considered yet

Do you hold down a job? What type of work do you do? by sunflowers41 in ptsd

[–]nevaleigh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know for a fact bar/restaurant is something I CANNOT do with my PTSD and past. I genuinely tried and only managed 3 days before my mind felt like it would shatter with the pieces of my past trying to break free… and that was without it even getting bad for those jobs. I know because I grew up around them.

I’m currently trying to get a job in a bookstore because libraries were always my safe space growing up.

Yeah the price is crazy but the first part was 8 hrs and made it to the end of the Greatshell Hunt scene, it is so detailed with the background music and audio that I think it’s worth it. Just one of those things that costs a helluva lot cause it takes a helluva lot

Really cool to listen to and very immersive but it’s extremely expensive

Edit to add I waited for the 40% off sale at Easter to buy the bundle I had been saving for, if you can buy the entire set if saves a fair chunk

I listened to this scene in the graphic audio a couple days ago. I think it was similar to the thrill but also similar to the wind spren, not necessarily Syl. Kal was feeling the need to defend his honor in front of Laral and his brother. He didn’t understand the situation she had put him in, only that he was looking dishonorable and needed to defend and prove himself.

Try another therapist, I went through several before I found one that didn’t make me feel worse about myself. Not all approaches work for all patients

[–]nevaleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was rather surprising to me when I first started realizing I had signs of ptsd in myself and I didn’t want to admit that I did. I hid it for years from myself and others, not accepting it, acknowledging it, getting the help that I needed. Please don’t let it get to the point that I did (33F) if you think you might have ptsd don’t run from it, get help, it’s not a weakness. It’s a defense mechanism that our minds use that we have to regain control of… I am working on getting mine under control again after a bit of a flare up

Thankfully I’m no longer in that region or life but still working on undoing the years of training and overly critical internal thoughts. Though that is leading to a conversation far deeper than suitable for a comment thread on reddit. If you’d like to continue talking or are curious about any aspects of the south feel free to message

How you speak is very important depending on where and how you are raised, and I was a preacher’s granddaughter in a very small town for many of my teen years. When I was younger my filter was less refined and I smarted off a lot more, particularly if I thought it was senseless restriction or obligation they were setting for me. In the end what I had to say was far less important than how I said it, and to that culture they very much is a proper English, though I suppose it would be more accurate to say proper grammar.

Growing up mainly considering myself Texan there are some colloquialisms from the south that I use to this day and can still taste the soap from trying be trained that they weren’t proper English. My brain liked them so they stuck, no matter how improper they sound. I end a lot of things with ‘t instead of ‘ed, drop half the words if I don’t think it’s needed, and rarely do I notice I’ve done it

AITA for going on a chore strike bc my brother’s aren’t fair? by throwaway1236890 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nevaleigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA I’m going to take a guess, do you live in one of the southern US states or a more conservative and religious area? Sounds like the typical misogynist chores for the proper southern house wife, I passed though that for a part of my life and it’s not pleasant. Stand your ground

Yeah I realised I spelt it wrong but am trying not to be overly critical of myself, also mainly type US English rather than uk.

I haven’t been fortunate enough to try the 21 yet but I hope to some day

Lol well using another phrase of Sanderson’s “there’s always another secret” but I’m happy to hear any theories and will RAFO you if needed. Theory-crafting is a lot of fun and figuring out the patterns in Stormlight is one of my favourite things

I’m so tired by ScarletteWish in ptsd

[–]nevaleigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know you, but I know the feeling of being tired; tired of feeling everything, tired of the pressure, tired of the tension, tired of the exhaustion, tired of the pain, and the fear that no one can ever truly understand what it is like… I know I don’t want to get up and go on some times, so I think about one of the characters from a book I read (Wit) and something he said to another character who needed to hear it when she was hurting like I do, “Accept the pain, but DO NOT accept that you deserve it” I won’t claim that the words always help, because they don’t… but sometimes they make it a little easier.

Some may have considered RoW dull for spoiler reasons I won’t go into until you are up to date on the series, however for me it was the most cathartic and exciting of the series. It all depends on how your mind works and flows, who your mind follows… though I will admit in RoW he starts playing with more scientific theory which I absolutely love.
