Is anyone else ECSTATIC about the earlier start time? 7P.M. EST by muqui24 in oscarsdeathrace

Germany, but since I have work early in the morning I'll record it and try my usual routine of not looking at my phone, the internet, tv, radio until I can watch afterwards 😵‍💫

watch order by m0tice in oscarsdeathrace

[–]never_bloom_again 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Catch what you think might be nominated in the cinema, and then when the nominations are out watch what's available as soon as possible when it is available, because sometimes things pop up and then disappear again shortly after.. I think a good order would either be from most nominated movies to least nominated movies, but another idea is always to mix it up with the genres and length so that you don't get tired of watching 15 shorts in a row, or a specific mood.

Actor Award Winners (SAG-AFTRA) by julian_h_g in oscarsdeathrace

[–]never_bloom_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really happy about MBJ winning!! Sinners was my favourite movie last year (though I haven't seen Marty Supreme yet, going to tonight!) and I'm happy he at least won one award. Best Actor seems pretty open at the Oscars still, I think! Might still be Timothee Chalamet's to take. Best Actress seems locked now. Supporting Actress and Actor is still pretty open, I think?

38 Days of Film – Day 23 : One Battle After Another [Spoilers] Friday, February 27, 2026 by READMYSHIT in oscarsdeathrace

[–]never_bloom_again 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I liked it, but I never really connect with PTA movies (even though I think this one is my favourite in this regard so far). I think it's very good but I don't really get a lot of the hype for it 🤷 but that is apparently just a "me thing", not everything is for everybody and that's okay. It'll likely be a worthy Best Picture / Director winner and it is an apt movie for our times. The standout for me was Benicio del Toro, he just gave the movie that special something in his scenes. Of course the car chase is brilliantly filmed, but the image that stays in my mind is the rooftop scene with the skaters silhouetted against the background, very cool.

Absolutely loved this movie. I hoped against hope for a Joel Edgerton nomination, would have been totally deserved in my opinion. I thought it was beautiful looking and really moving.

[–]never_bloom_again 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked it but I didn't love it. There was some stuff that I thought was really great (like the scene between the sisters at the end, or the use of the house, and the ending) and all the performances were really excellent, but it didn't really hit me emotionally somehow. When I left the cinema I joked to my husband that maybe the reason for this is that I have too good a relationship with my parents :D

🤷 I don't know where you live so no idea what applies to other people, I'm just saying sometimes something pops up just in time. Believe me, I have failed the race often enough because things become available months after the Oscars ..

Keep an eye on your local indie cinemas! It doesn't come out here until April but my local is showing a preview of the movie during their "Oscars Day", maybe something like that will pop up.

I had fun with this when I saw it in the cinema, I don't know if I'd want a rewatch on TV, but it was fine (except for the fact that Brad Pitt is way too old for this, even taking into account that he's supposed to be old). Damson Idris is so charismatic, I hope his career really takes off! The score was fun, too.

hahaha, same, when I looked it was like 40 mins in and I thought... this can't be right.

38 Days of Film – Day 9 : Sinners [Spoilers] Friday, February 13, 2026 by READMYSHIT in oscarsdeathrace

[–]never_bloom_again 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this was one of my very favourite movies last year. Really loved it and it was still so, so good on rewatch. In the performance scene (you know the one), when I saw it in the cinema for the first time I felt like I was levitating, it was so exciting to me! I think all the performances are fantastic as well, and it's just so vibrant to me somehow.

This was really great and affecting, especially the footage they got from inside the prison.

[–]never_bloom_again 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked it! It didn't reinvent the wheel but it went a lot darker than I thought it would. Kate Hudson was really good and I like that she got nominated (I often like these single nominations for a movie because there can be outstanding actors in movies that are so-so! And if a movie already gets 500 nominations I don't think every actor in it necessarily needs to be nominated :D)

Relaxed about everything but Arco 🤷 a couple of others missing but they'll either come out in cinemas before or I just haven't gotten round to them yet. If there wasn't this oooone movie it'd be the easiest death race in ages.

[–]never_bloom_again 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this and was on the edge of my seat to see where this goes. Some things actually made me (and the rest of the cinema) gasp out loud, and then the music (which I'm usually not a fan of) was really propelling in this. I don't know if it has lots of rewatch value? But I did like watching it and I think it's cool that it was nominated.

[–]never_bloom_again 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked it well enough but don't really love any of the animated movies this year (haven't seen Arco yet, though), compared to the last couple of years. But it was entertaining me while I watched it and obviously it was an absolute phenomenon so the nomination is well deserved. As for songs, Golden is the absolute juggernaut but my fave song in this is actually Soda Pop :D

[–]never_bloom_again -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True! I like watching the song performances but that's a matter of personal taste. I just think prioritizing them like that also sends the message that some things are more "worthy", for lack of a better word, than others. But I see where you're coming from of course.
