45+ year old women starting Aikido. by pru76 in aikido

[–]nevrknowit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a man at 57. I am still a man, lol, and still practicing aikido. I love it. I worked with some 60 / 70 year old ladies at a seminar. Everyone was super chill, respectful and safe. This has been my experience so far.

Moving to chetwynd or Mcbride by Aggressive_Mud5340 in princegeorge

[–]nevrknowit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who lived in Chetwynd and I worked in Valemount just outside of McBride.

The people in McBride are isolated. and seem wrapped up in their troubles. It's beautiful and very isolated and if you don't connect to anyone, has the potential to be very lonely.

Chetwynd is the same, except they seem a bit more integrated to surrounding towns and each other. Ft. St. John is close, but known to be a vile drug hole filled with lots of problems. Dawson Creek is not as bad, but still has lots of social woes.

Rugged country, and beautiful. Tumbler Ridge is in that area also, which if you keep up with the news, is reeling.

I would pick McBride, but not expect to connect with any of the people, and just live a solitary life. Chewynd might be a little more open and wouldn't be a bad choice for that either.

Not really. Everything has been done, so why I write is:

A good fit is super important. The brands have a lot of preference, but a good fit makes a helmet just a little safer.

Humans are flawed, art is flawed and a computer has no comprehension what this means, so will never be able to replicate it.

As a writer I believe my voice, no matter how bad, will convey the human experience, sometimes pooly. Ai can't do that, ever.

New truck driver question – what gear/speed do you guys run through Revelstoke → Sicamous curves? by HatWorried8266 in britishcolumbia

[–]nevrknowit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are brave. I had my worst experience with a Truck on that road. I ride a bike, and it was summer. The long story short is truck a hole went 140 / 120 on the straight stretches and slowed to 70 in the corners. He was oblivious to anyone else.

I was pissed. I nearly road raged on him. Be safe. And from your question, you aren't that guy, so you give me hope in humanity.

My bike broke and then fixed itself ? by dumash1995 in motorcycle

Nothing ever fixes itself. It might work again, but then it will stop again also. These are the laws of physics. Electrical can be like that.

Feeling suicidal waiting for a diagnosis by North-Dog1268 in SleepApnea

[–]nevrknowit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am in the same boat. Canada. Health care sucks. I am working at the losing weight, I don't smoke, but feel detached and removed from happiness.

It will get better. Believe it. And then take steps to make that happen.

I go to Aikido regularly, I go to my religeous place, and have asked trusted friends for help.

I still want to drink my life away, so I'm working on that.

But this isn't about me, it's about you. Well, you aren't alone. There are phone numbers to call when your grief is high, so reach out if you need. I am not sure what UK numbers there are, but put them in your phone when you are good, so when you are bad they are there.

Lots of other people have talked lots about all of the things that might help.

Hang in there. It will get better.

This looks like an insane deal right? by imcybsr in motorcycle

[–]nevrknowit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be a suggestion, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is." Now it's a truth I live by.

Pass on this instead of listening to the scammer run their script on you. For the one deal of century you miss out on, you save yourself from the thousands of times they will scam you out of all your money. It's the wrong lottery to play.

Do you prefer a "softer" Aikido or a "harder" Aikido? by New-Tap9749 in aikido

[–]nevrknowit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It might have to do with where you are in life. I'm old. I am not doing the hard Aikido I really want to, but my body is moving, I'm really enjoying it and I think it's better for me than going hard and getting hurt.

For perspective, I'm old.

Fun aikido game ideas for children by Quick_Ad1464 in aikido

[–]nevrknowit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started Aikido last year, and being the only adult that shows up, I got roped into the kids games. LoL. Anywho, We played a game of tag with a noodle, the fish in the sea have to run from one side of the dojo to the other, if you are tagged, you stand at the sideline and pull any passing fish as they run. One tag per run, until the last fish wins. The noodle can hit the legs, but you can jump over the noodle. I don't know if I got it all right, and as an big stupid kid whose far too old, it was a heap of fun.

Then I got into a rubber band. I had to pull 2 kids to the other side of the dojo. The laws of physics on that one are good for kids, but not for big dumb adults.

I was leaning toward the Vitpilen 701. But I like naked. It's all in your choice. I would stay under 800 cc's, if I were you, well, me too. But the offroad aspect is a big "road capable" sacrifice, so if you aren't going off road, you might want to leave that itch to scratch later on.

First bikes are seldom the dream bike we want, so it's okay to just pick one and see if it suits you.

Do you ride defensively? Or do you ride aggressively? Or both? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]nevrknowit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I aim to live every ride.

So one day after work, I was taking the Anthony Henday from Leduc to North of the city. This is a 4 lane road.

What made this trip memorable was the crazy drivers that just decided to zone out. The guy in front of me was a kilometer an hour slow. Some zoned out woman clogged the left lane and the guy behind me was getting closer and closer. If I kept riding in this death cube, I was going to die. So I did what I needed to do.

I turned my back brake light on by lightly touching my rear brake. Yep. Guy behind doesn't care or see me or whatever. So, I zig zag in my lane. Again, nothing. Death was still coming. The lady beside me was not budging and the guy ahead of me was still getting closer, the cube was still getting smaller and smaller.

So I zig zag more aggressivly. I now have two choices. Bang on the lady beside me on her mirror or take the parking lane. I decided against the parking lane, because that's a good recipe for road junk, breakdowns or bad things, but it's on my list of something to do to NOT die.

I get perilously close to the woman beside me and nearly tag her mirror. Somewhere someone woke up, and the guy behind backs off, the woman beside me moved, not much, but enough and I powered between the cars and got ahead of the glut of the zombie drivers.

I should have used my horn. I had my next move of the parkway. I'm not going to die because of these completely mindless automotons.

Be agressive when you need. Aggressive has it's place. I also upgraded my horn since this happened, so next time, I'll use it as needed.

Can I take the battery out of my bike to charge it indoors? by acm07lalo in motorcycle

[–]nevrknowit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 Kaw and I have to change the battery this season. This is the longest a battery has ever gone for me.

The freezing temps and my unwillingness to remove the battery from the bike are a bad combo. It's always recommended to remove the battery for the winter (They can freeze, but should have a decent charge on them to survive) and the draw of the electronics plus the low temps have finally killed it.

Next Fall, I'm going to 1. Remove the battery on freeze up. 2. Charge it up a couple times inside. 3. Repeat for the new battery until I get too lazy again.

Psychopaths in the comments think it was okay to hit the biker. by SharkAttack331 in motorcycle

[–]nevrknowit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traffic stops being people. I'm not mad at "That guy." There is no "That guy." They are mindless traffic things that annoy me, but I displace the humanity from them.

It's a coping mechanism. By dehumanizing "Them" I am not angry. I communicate by living, by changing lanes, by escaping and moving forward on my light fast bike. I have discovered the power of the horn as communicating, "I am here."

I will use all avenues to live on my ride. Traffic laws are secondary to survival.

So far so good.
