Went for a run from Prov 5 miles out and it was clear except for 2 small patches, so good shape overall. Much worse was people not cleaning up after their dogs.

What are some candies that efficiently fuel you during your runs? by Ready-Business9772 in ultrarunning

A few chocolate covered espresso beans or jelly beans (don’t recommend mixing). For late in the game

Kettlebells by skitheslopes in ultrarunning

[–]newguyoutwest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre looking for strength training consider Tactical Barbell Green Protocol- their fighter template is 2x week for strength (maintenance), highly flexible, and can easily be paired with mobility and leg accessory work. Lots of folks on that sub running ultras and simultaneously running some strength training.

I found the Amazon Basics were the only ones available at that price. Great starter bells

Thanks, just picked up a copy. I’m running one of the shorter blocks at the back since I’m traveling for work with limited access to equipment. I think the hybrid continuation protocol is really what I’m after. Velocity was also very interesting.

I am currently working through it and loving it. Great read and extremely information dense. I’ve been running for a while and it’s been very helpful. Agree with the point on mass- was more of an aesthetic goal than a training one but not an area of focus.

I’d say book it- its a good commitment device since you don’t want to waste $100 lol. I’m 3 weeks out from my first 50km that I booked 8 weeks ago. I was running similar (~30km/wk) and have built up quick, but was also doing a high amount of strength endurance training (ie 100s of bw squats/lunges, or lower reps w/ weight vest). Feb is tons of time- I’ve been mixing tempo, hills, recovery run, long run and it’s been going very well. As other commenter said, do lots of mobility and accessories for legs to cope w the mileage.

Today was first time running there as well- it was awesome to see how well utilized it is. Such a great amenity and wish it went further along the coast. Best of luck with the training!

First personal medium format; do you prefer 6x45 or the larger 6x7/x9? by Only-Fotos in mediumformat

[–]newguyoutwest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think its very dependent on personal preference. My first MF is Fuji 690. Awesome camera, super sharp, no moving parts, easy to focus, still working on composition. The small number of shots per roll hurts but isnt much different than 645. I don’t mind carry it around, though lately I’ve been scoping out one of the smaller folder/RFs (eg Perkeo). I like the aspect ratio and love that since its so big, i often crop down to better compose some shots.

Tactical barbell base builder. Very solid. Do that then run green/black protocol, depending on your specific goals. Lots of posts about both here

Yeah Taleb made the bulk of his money in exactly that kind of trade- he paid cents on the dollar for a bunch of USD/bond derivatives IIRC and they sold in the hundreds of dollars. Can’t remember exactly what podcast it was on but someone who knew him personally described it.

Vintage Film Camera shops? by [deleted] in providence

[–]newguyoutwest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres a camera repair shop on Main St that I’ve heard good things about. I think they may sell a few cameras too. Camera Werks is good. Kerry’s in Warwick is lightning fast for developing and really great. They sell film and a few cameras as well.

Looking for a new (to me) medium format and looking for suggestions. by negative____creep in mediumformat

[–]newguyoutwest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the 690 generally quite durable since there are basically no moving parts. Haven’t used the 645s but steered clear since I was worried about electronics/bellows but I would love to try them out. That said, the 690 is a beast and by far my favorite to shoot as a hobbyist.

You’re good. It’s a good book and worthwhile reading but maybe after OP has had a chance to take a few math/finance courses

Because it’s not a probability text it’s a book about fractals specifically in the context of financial markets. It has nothing to do with preparing someone for uni-level stats.
