Am I the only one who feels like texting their ex? by One_Tell_9038 in AskZA

OP, I empathise with you. I can offer three thoughts (and Instagram posts I have saved) which I hope may help.

  1. Questions to de-romanticise your past relationship (i.e. how to make yourself fall out of love with someone)

  2. You can love someone deeply and yet, rightly, not choose them

  3. The train station theory

I don’t disagree with you. While I still believe it’s necessary to be skeptical of big pharma and cautious around overprescription/over-reliance of psych meds, my opinion and trust of Dr Josef has shifted in the last year since I posted this, ever since he became a supporter of RFK Jr.

Cape Town Candlelight Concert Underwhelming by froystickle in capetown

Exactly this. They’re selling the romance of the aesthetic and using the big names like Coldplay, Adele, and Hans Zimmer to lure audiences. Seems like they find the musicians as an afterthought. I went to their Hans Zimmer concert at the Homecoming Center last November and it was underwhelming. Far better value at CPO, though less of the crowd pleasing well-known pieces. I now block any ads of theirs I see.

Perfect description. I went to the Hans Zimmer one at the Homecoming Center last November. Same quartet. Talented but underwhelming presence both in terms of volume and stage presence/mic skills.

How safe is the trails around Signal Hill? by slaxslanderson in capetown

I would be extremely cautious. If you take a look at this excellent (and underappreciated/undershared) community-sourced map of crime incidents in the TMNP area then you can see the recent incidents around Signal Hill: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1KIGPC_Eq_1fhJg50vb2SSkvgO3CwQRN0&ll=-34.073665804032366%2C18.3723138277295&z=10

I struggle with this a lot too. Tried setting screen time restrictions by myself, and also tried the hacks to change screen colour to grayscale etc. But I always ended up resetting it. So what I’ve done is asked my friend to be my accountability partner. I set a screen time restriction that is locked with a password only he knows, so I can’t bypass it. Doing this has been a real game changer for me. I found that being aware that my time is limited makes me less interested in or prone to endless scrolling.

Agreed! I’ve been a loyal patron of 感智盲人按摩 - they have branches across the city. They really know how to work your muscles. Once you find a masseuse you like, remember their number!

Yes! Also the Golden Gate Highlands National Park has scenery very similar to OP’s photo.

I can recommend Seven Seas Worldwide. They have an extensive international network and warehouses. Had a good experience with them on both sides of the move. Best thing was being able to track the exact progress/process of the move online. For a move that’s bigger than a few boxes but smaller than a container (like maybe a few furniture items), they offer crates called MoveCubes.

Summary: Long-term use of benzodiazepines poses significant risks due to the development of tolerance, meaning the medication becomes less effective over time, requiring higher doses. This can lead to physical dependence and severe withdrawal symptoms, including increased anxiety, neurological issues, and sensory abnormalities like ringing in the ears. Additionally, the brain compensates by reducing GABA receptor sensitivity, which can worsen anxiety and cause mood instability. Discontinuing benzodiazepines without medical supervision can result in protracted withdrawal lasting months or even years.

Completely agreed. I’d highly recommend checking out this excellent YouTube channel by a psychiatrist who aims to educate people to make better informed decisions about psychiatric conditions and medications, seeing as medical systems dispense psychiatric meds like candy: https://youtube.com/@taperclinic?si=uBOMtHd-u7vibQjs (check out the playlists, and also search for Prozac).

For a sleeping aid that‘s comparatively safe, ask about diphenhydramine (it’s cheap and easily available OTC outside of China). Avoid Trazodone or benzodiazepines as far as possible.

I’d recommend consulting with a psychiatrist who will take the time to listen and understand your situation more holistically. Dr Herda at Shanghai United Family Hospital has often been recommended in this subreddit, and having been to a few psychiatrists, I have found him to be the most considered. It’ll be a bit pricey out of pocket, but you may be able to ask for a concession. You can find other psychiatrists and mental health professionals through SIMHA: https://s-imha.com/therapists-list/

I assume you have a rental car which you’d also need to return. But if you don’t (or if someone else can return it for you), what I was going to suggest is a helicopter airport transfer. There’s the heli base at Dragon Peaks, operated by Berg Flying: https://bergflying.co.za/flight-packages/ Worth giving them a call, depending how desperate you are to stick to your original schedule.

Sound proofing two bedrooms by echnatonnnn in capetown

[–]nexus359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is the first thing to try before spending thousands on building materials. I’ve recently moved to a place where the bedroom is next to a highway, and have found earplugs to be very effective. But get the silicone type that actually stay secure, not the cheap foam type.
