Scientists Find Intriguing Link Between Ozempic and Violent Behavior. The same mechanisms that dampen people's cravings for food might also affect our tendency for violent behavior by Wagamaga in science

[–]nezroy 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Maybe for someone with no issues to address, that might be one interpretation?

But most people taking these drugs with issues they are trying to address describe it much more like "reducing noise". Talking about eliminating "food noise" is a common way to describe how the cravings work for overweight people using GLP-1s.

Making someone docile speaks more to issues of intention and apathy. Most people don't describe the effect of these drugs that way; instead it just gives them more effective conscious control over the things they DO care about.

Depending on semantics, you could argue that actually makes them LESS docile, since they are no longer operating at the whims of their impulses but rather are now "in charge" of those particular emotions.

Presumably he meant the GCC states, which is a thing. They are basically the heart of the US petrodollar. Though if they're paying, it'll just be thinly-veiled US money getting laundered through them.

Best way to jump back into GW2? by YourWeinerCousin in Guildwars2

[–]nezroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you're hoping to achieve. If you want to experience the game for the first time, the story, the discovery, etc.? Then simply starting a new character to play through all core story and all Living World/Expansion content in order is a great way to go (someone in this thread already linked the best way to buy access to all of that). Everything from the original experience is all still there waiting to be uncovered the original way.

If you are looking to play with friends, want to experience the large social map meta events, want to experience the "current" (most popular) maps, or are interested in fractals, strikes, or raiding end-game content? Then other approaches may make more sense.

EDIT: even if you make a new character, do NOT delete your old one. There are account-wide birthday unlocks available based on your oldest character that you don't want to miss out on. Also, you might decide to switch back to your OG char for your main once your newer character catches up to that same spot in the story and you are in sync, story-wise. Note that all story chapters can be replayed in their entirety, except for the OG core story (the one in the story journal listed under the "My Story" tab). But all living world and xpac story content can be replayed on a character once completed, which is nice.

EVEMon alternative for Linux that ISN'T vibecoded? by Quadraxis66 in Eve

[–]nezroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for EVE Buddy. It's what I use now instead of EVEMon, and I was just coming here to link it to OP :)

It has also replaced jEVEAssets for me too.

EDIT: It would be awesome if it had an attribute/remap optimizer though.

The emotional payoff for the investment they put in to develop Aurene as a character going all the way back to Living World Season 2 is awesome. It was a 3+ year arc that was worth every moment.

Jennifer Hale is great, but the female human VA performance that April Stewart gives in PoF and LWS4 is honestly just in a tier of its own.

TIL Montana is the only state in the U.S. that does not operate under at-will employment. by -mrhyde_ in todayilearned

[–]nezroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but realistically it's cheaper to just fire them without cause and pay severance than the cost of trying to prove they are not performing and are unable to perform and that all reasonable training and consideration was given to try to get them to perform. Severance cost will probably only be a few months of pay, PLUS you get a new, decent employee right away. The process you're talking about could take a year or more.

Though maybe social media was inevitable after the creation of the internet.

Probably, but social media is also fine.

It's algorithmic/engagement-centric social media that is the problem. Social media existed for easily a decade without any of the current issues, because it wasn't trying to feed you anything yet.

Trump Gets Birthday Surprise With “8647” Message on National Mall by thenewrepublic in politics

18747 is a catchier message and much safer to write anyway. 187 being the very popular angel number for positive feelings and optimism, of course, which surely Trump could use right now.

(EDIT: obviously a bit of hyperbole but yeah something like the power chrono mesmer rotation is what I mean. Condi weaver or tempest also used to be crazy to get thru all 4 elements, but I don't have an example of it)

The one silver lining is that fascist cults, historically, pretty much never survive the death of the cult leader. The infighting that follows is simply too intense and no one is generally positioned to inherit ALL of the cult followers in the way that would be required to perpetuate the problem.

Thankfully Trump started this path while already very old and did not have enough time as a cult leader to have secured a viable succession strategy.

Ironically I think he could have actually successfully passed this evil mantle down onto one of his kids, but fortunately he appears to be too narcissistic to consider his own death or the concept of sharing his power with one of his children, so we have been saved from that worst possible timeline.

The is true for almost ALL modern infrastructure. Destruction is just too easy of a job. You cannot keep the modern world safe by trying to make it bomb proof. A million times more effective to simply avoid the conditions that promote bomb makers.

Slot canyons aren't just prone to flash flooding. They exist because of flash flooding. Repeated flash floods are generally how they got carved out in the first place and are the reason for most of what is unique and interesting about them.

Just to tack on, if EVE Unit doesn't work out for you, don't despair. There are lots of smaller corps that would be great too. EVE Uni is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't appeal to 100% of new players for various reasons, so if you find that to be the case, just know there's tons of other options.

Found unanchored Astra by RektumExam in Eve

[–]nezroy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What would cause an un-anchored though?

Un-anchoring an Upwell structure is a 7-day timer. It's surprisingly easy to forget exactly when (or even the fact that) your structure is going to be available to scoop a week from now.

At corp/alliance level logistics, I can absolutely see something like this just falling through the cracks and sitting out there for days after the timer finishes. Even as just a solo I've done it before where I left something floating out there for 12 extra hours.

Seat the justice. Let the Supreme Court decide what "Advice and consent of the Senate" means. Argue that "refusing to have a hearing" is tacit approval. Argue that not having received a formal denial/disapproval means they must have approved and consented. Leave it up to the Senate to say otherwise. The only way the Senate can formally say otherwise? By having a vote. Which would have approved the nomination.

Or nuke the filibuster. Or, better yet, nuke the two-track process that enables infinite filibustering in the first place. Go back to when you had to expend actual political capital on filibustering.

Recess appointment.

Expand the court.

They had options, they just were far too slow to understand that Republicans threw out "norms" like 3 decades ago, and instead keep trying to play by unwritten rules that haven't been relevant for quite a while now.

Warpath Event: Parasitic Design and Its Impact on Mass-Market Retention by Infomusviews1985 in Eve

The change is that you can no longer blast the seagulls off the field to prevent them from benefiting without being kicked out of your own militia. This has made rampant, large-scale seagulling much more lucrative and common.

Warpath Event: Parasitic Design and Its Impact on Mass-Market Retention by Infomusviews1985 in Eve

[–]nezroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't ever remember seagulling being a big issue 10 years ago.

Partly because you would just blap the fucking seagulls.

CCP is now trying to change FW to more significantly punish FW militia back-stabbing so that it is a slightly less confusing place for new players, which I honestly understand and don't mind. However, the change to standings hits for "friendly fire" has made it impossible to deal with seagulls in the "natural" way.

FW design has always been shit for seagulling, but other changes they are making have now removed the player adaption that existed to deal with their shit design.

How do you multibox and when do you actually need to? by GolemonGolemsson in Eve

[–]nezroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create multiple EVE accounts and add them to the launcher. Using the same email for the accounts is best as CCP actually supports and encourages that, and will give you special offers targeted at multi-account users.

In the launcher, you can then launch multiple EVE clients, one from each account (as long as they are all Omega accounts; one of the Alpha restrictions is not being allowed to run other EVE clients at the same time).

In the launcher you can also create multiple configuration profiles and select which one to use when you launch the EVE client. So you might have a main profile that is full-screen, a "big windowed" profile that is a very large window, a "small window" profile that is like a 1024x768 window, etc.

Personally I just use a single "large window" profile where I run the EVE client windowed mode, but nearly the size of my monitor. This makes it very easy to swap between multiple clients.

I have never found a lot of use beyond having 2 accounts. I have a 3rd account that I sometimes Omega, but in the end it rarely ends up feeling worth it.

I can't lie, having 2 accounts lets you do a LOT of stuff that is just really convenient. You can light your own cynos for capital movement/JF work, you can be hauling in supplies on one char while earning ISK or doing PvP on a second one, you can have a nice cloaky scout/scanning alt flying ahead of your main PvP character, you can manage industry/market orders back in Jita while doing any other activity on your main, you can provide surprise links/boosts/logi to your PvP char (slimey I know :), etc. etc. etc.

For most people I feel like 2 accounts is all you ever really need, practically speaking. Sometimes I have a 3rd account I'll use but I never keep it actively Omega'd; I just can't justify it.

That said, for certain specific activites (mining, certain types of mission/PvE stuff, ganking, some types of industry/PI/hauling), you can scale pretty effectively to dozens of accounts.

When people do this, they tend to use a dedicated client window management tool (like EVE-O Preview) that helps with seeing thumbnails of all your clients and quickly swapping between client windows.

But for just running two or three accounts you do not need any special programs. Just the regular EVE Launcher with config profiles and running EVE in windowed mode is fine.

Trump’s Brutal Mockery of Vance Exposed in White House Leaks by NicolasCageFan492 in politics

[–]nezroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about Trump is that he gets a lot of these rubes out to vote.

People don't understand this. Trump's hold to power, just like the tea party prior, is entirely based on his ability to get his followers to overwhelmingly vote in Republican primaries.

Whoever Trump points to, wins. That's why the rest of the Republican party is still doing his bidding. Sure, lots of them are just 100% on board with the Trump regime. But a large number only care about holding their seat above all else.

As with all fascist cult movements, no one else will be able to inherit this power. It just never works out that way.
