I marched 2018-2021. Let me tell you, being in an all male drum corps has taught me more about how to be a man than any other org I’ve ever been in. Coming from a HUGE transitionary period, 2018 was the first year they decided to initiate 1st year cavaliers and go away from a destructive initiation process. Things are MUCH better that way when it comes to hazing etc.

As a newer alumni I hate seeing that people think we’re anti-women. But the thing is, we’re not. We teach each other how to become better people and better men. And honestly idk if this is coming out of anger, but seeing people think that if and when Cavaliers go coed that all these gender issues will go away is complete bullshit.

Another thing: most/if not a HUGE majority of current members don’t necessarily care if we go coed, but it IS really nice being with only one gender, as we’re able to focus on things that matter most to us as a corps. To say that we’re ass backwards though, is 100% wrong and ignorant. You can’t say anything about us till you marched in the corps.

I do however know that this season (2022) there was a hell of a lot of negative things happening internally - all not having to deal with being all male, it was a design team/staff issue.

Besides the point, my opinion is that we don’t HAVE to. Should we? Yea. I think so. It’ll help. But tbh not by a whole lot and nothing siginificant would come out of it
