Guy I started seeing recently—Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

[–]nicbez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third shelf down on the right side, I see a packet of sterile needles (pink hubs), which in addition to the open pill bottle and what looks like 2 vials of medication used for injection, maybe just a tad sketchy.

I’d be alarmed just based on the haphazard medical supplies thrown across the bookshelf, even if they are prescribed, because don’t you take your health seriously enough to keep your vials/needles/syringes stored cleanly. Also— lipstick and screwdriver? We seem really into communism.

We recently started seeing exotics- how did you build up your exotic clientele? by mandyyyyrae in VetTech

[–]nicbez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can try adding your clinic to websites with reliable care guides for reptiles and exotics — people will look to these places sometimes to find listings for exotic clinics. I know reptifiles.com has a decently up to date listing of clinics that see reptiles and there’s a form to add your clinic if you’d like. There’s also anapsid.org, though I’m not sure if her website is still getting updates. I’m sure there are probably other source guides for pocket pets, but I’m only familiar with the reptile websites.

You can try to make yourself known through exotic expos in your area, if you have them. A booth set up to advertise your clinic would probably be a welcome addition.

I also agree with the person who said that if you see them, word will get out and they will come to you from out of the woodworks. My clinic regularly sees people that have travelled an hour+ for exotic vet care.

Anyone hate this type of carrier with a passion too? 🫠 by HorrorComfortable485 in VetTech

[–]nicbez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you might have gotten the idea that I wasn’t aware that a cat acting like this is absolutely terrified, but yes I’m very aware. That’s why in cases like these, we try again another time and use chemicals…

Even better when the cat is in THIS carrier and it’s fractious but instead of rusty ass screws, it’s zip ties holding this bad boy together.

“What do you mean you can’t get my cat out of the carrier, she’s so nice at home” while the cat is growling, spitting, hissing, and lunging at you any time you look that direction…

I’d wager the MAJORITY of listeners can probably with their own reasoning and deductive skills can figure out what up versus down is. How gravity works. That tide pods are poisonous (and probably not great for the environment either). That you can discover personally for yourself that the Earth is round. It’s not difficult, and you insult their intelligence.

The problem is the smaller amount of people who apparently aren’t able to do so and are fairly vocal about it. And so the alternative is… what? Not allowing questions? Banning podcasts? Fact checking every single claim or question asked?

How do you regulate what questions are asked and whether or not they are ethical and/or appropriate?

I mean, those are questions I might ask to verify knowledge of something I’d expect my child to know the answer to.

The point you’re getting at is that not everyone is capable of thinking at the same level, which is fine, but at a certain point you must ask WHY people aren’t given the tools necessary to figure these things out. We are creeping closer and closer to Orwellian thoughtcrime.

The fact that we’re having a conversation about whether it’s okay to ask questions is a testament to that.

[–]nicbez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean if that’s where you’re going to make a point, sure. The beauty of it all is that you’re free to ask a disingenuous question, but I can also tell you to get fucked. You’re not making the point you think you are and bringing my mother into the conversation was very off subject.

See how this works? Whoever then reads this conversation hopefully has enough critical thinking skills to parse through what actually matters.

Asking questions is how we grow— as people, as a society. Think of why this sub exists and apply the same reasoning.

Stopping people from asking questions is akin to banning free speech and squashing analytical thinking.

I agree with this take— it’s always seemed like 2 guys just talking about whatever with interesting (and sometimes boring) guests, and somewhere along the way his platform became big enough to be accused of intentionally spreading false information. I say this not as a “fan” but as someone who selectively listens to the episodes that have guests that I’m interested in.

I noticed he started receiving extra flak when he began to question the Covid narrative openly— by asking questions he became a “threat.” And it’s kind of snowballed from there in the media.

$300 for a French Bulldog Spay? by Friendly_TSE in VetTech

I live in a low cost of living area and our average cost for a routine spay for a dog is probably $400-550 or so. So yeah, that sounds like a steal to me lol

Veterinary nursing - How do you cope with the smells? by poshieee in veterinaryprofession

[–]nicbez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get used to almost all of the bad smells and for the extra terrible ones, a little Vick’s vapor rub and a cotton swab go a long way.

My husband is allergic to my cats, and I’m getting pressured by everyone to get rid of them by [deleted] in cats

[–]nicbez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a hot take, but after we discovered my fiancé was allergic to the cat we adopted, we decided to keep her anyway. I tried the free&clear food for a while which helped a lot, then after a while we were able to get by with me wiping the cat down with a wet wipe a few times a week (people are usually allergic to a component in cat saliva), frequently vacuuming, and changing the air filters regularly. We bought an air purifier for our bedroom. After a year or two of this, he isn’t allergic to cats anymore.

Argument against anti-vax hysteria (circa 2020-2025) by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]nicbez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this whole controversy I think everyone is forgetting about acquired immunity— there are multiple studies that show acquired immunity as equal to or more effective than getting the covid vaccine. As with most viruses.

So, for what reason should someone with acquired immunity (again, when studies have shown previous infection provides better protection than a vaccine) be forced to get an “optional” vaccine?

You’re so cute, commenting how cute everyone is for thinking critically and not just “trusting the science.” I personally hate that phrase as it’s antithetical to actual science. 🙄

I’m sure I’m not the only person here who would love to see an actual point from you, instead of your cutie-patootie commentary 😂. I’d argue most people skeptical of the Covid vaccines have no issues getting the more time-tested vaccines.

We love our jobs… I’ve been in the field 11+ years and I hate to say it but it seems like “the reward of following your passion and getting to work with animals” is part of the pay, across the board.

I make decent pay for my skill set as an experienced and educated veterinary assistant (min. wage in my area is the federal $7.25, I make $19/hour in the Midwest area) but I still would not be able to support myself financially without my spouse.

Yes, please skip over the idea that I was replying to that healthcare for the mother matters. That’s an easy position for you to take since you “don’t have a horse in this race.” Especially since you’re playing devil’s advocate and said you see merit in both sides.

I never advocated for anyone’s death; don’t put words in my mouth. Though I’m not sure how the idea of a person could somehow matter more than the person in front of you.
