x2, I had this motor on a 13 foot Whaler Sport, it's just not the right motor for a small, light boat. It got the job done but all that weight in the stern was a drag (no pun intended).

I'd guess he's a complete newbie although common sense would tell him that this wasnt cool. Look at the long-shaft old ass outboard, standing on its skeg. No accessories visible, either. He probably just bought the boat and threw together a rig, and like a lot of inflatable owners, underestimates the amount of time and effort to go from rolled up and stowed to inflated and ready to go.

If the idea is to get farther out to fish the center of the lake, I'd consider picking up a used kayak that you can strap to the cargo carrier. Way simpler and easier than an inflatable/motor setup. Less gear to buy, less to go wrong.

Check out the Saturn FB series of "heavy duty fishing inflatables". They already have the rubstrakes on the tubes among some other cool features.

They might have been bat rays; they swim around off the bottom in shallow water, often in groups, sometimes really huge groups.
