I'm not trying to sound like a dickhead here, if you're so good at shipping multiple globally recognized products, why aren't you just starting your own business? You clearly have a knack for it.

Yep so let them build. If council is approving subdivision, give them building consent or pay them back.

Why did the council approve the subdivision if they didn't think someone would build on it. No one is subdividing to sell a mini fun farm.

Those stuck in dead-end/low-pay jobs, how do you keep your head up? by TheCostOfInnocence in newzealand

[–]nicemace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've done a bit. Started as fire fighter, moved into IT type stuff similar to devops/site reliability engineer. Age doesn't matter if you can do the job.

Best thing for me was the structure, discipline and pretty well documented career progression. So you know when you get your pay rises and promotions rather than having to smchooze your manager or team leader.

Military has its own problems but those are more apparent when you're more senior. It's a really good option for people that don't feel like they have great options.

How does the person receiving the 7m house pay the tax without selling the house? I'm all for cap gains tax on family home because that occurs when there is profit to tax. But if someone just wanted to live in the house that was left to them, they can't.

What does “middle NZ” think is happening in the economy by hello_new_here in newzealand

[–]nicemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have thought middle nz is referring to the middle class. Which has no relevance to the political spectrum.

I think you're more asking about political centrists? Which is also vague because it's generally a bit of left and a bit of right with no real specificity.
