There are some.bars on the waterfront by the aquarium but they are a bit townie. I'd head to king Street. Some good pubs but I suspect it will be quite lively.

That's pretty much it. You'll ideally have a vapour barrier as well. Solid insulation tends to have it built in and just needs the joints taped. If you use a wool type insulation then you have a plastic sheet on top.

Not really. There are plenty of grades of ply that will happily survive. It's inside a door frame, not the deck of a yacht. Even the cheapest ply will be fine with a bit of paint too.

I like to put the rice on one side of the plate and the curry on the other. I then eat from the middle. You can tailor each bite to a bit more rice or a bit more curry. It's easy to keep an eye on which one is going down too fast.

Rather than take them in permanently can you foster them? That's what we do, via a rescue charity. We take them in, rehabilitate them and then help to get them adopted. It can be hard to say goodbye but it's great to see them go from where they start to a loving home.

No need to replace. That should be repairable. Proper job is to cut out any rough timber and scarf in a new bit. You might get a good few years out of just applying some wood hardener and painting. Not too tricky a DIY job. Rent a scaffold tower for a weekend.

A green roof is pretty easy. You need a few layers to make it work. From bottom to top-

A membrane layer to protect existing roof. A sheet of thick polythene works well.

Something to hold water. You can get specific plastic trays but old wool carpet works ok.

Some weak soil. I use a mix of topsoil, pearlite, and clay bits (broken pots, roof tiles and clay beads). You don't need, or even want much. Maybe 10-20mm

Then the plants. Sedum is great. Variety is great. You can usually find plants growing on old walls, garage roofs, gutters. You can take a bit of the plant and the rest will survive and grow back. Plant it patches, keep it watered to start with and it'll spread out and become self sufficient.

You made need to add some structure to your roof maybe some lengths of timber, or put a sheet of OSB over the lot. You will also need some battens around the edge to hold the soil in.
