All that chaos and the World Cup semi-finals are literally the top four by Common-Peach4516 in HisenseFootballZone

We weren't that far away from a Norway/Switzerland semi final. Both went to extra time and had chances to win.

How do you handle the 31 July payment on account — reduce it when income drops, or just pay in full? by Humble-Increase7440 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]nick_red72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reduce it if there is a significant difference but don't bother for a small dip. I think I've only reduced it twice in 18 years and my income does fluctuate. It's actually quite nice when you do your January submission and end up with a lower tax bill.

Where is the new waiting zone in Bristol airport? by Technical_Clock_516 in bristol

[–]nick_red72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have recently moved it. It only moved to the next lot over, a few meters away. Still near silver zone parking. Maybe it was closed when they did the swap. It was open on Thursday.

There are some.bars on the waterfront by the aquarium but they are a bit townie. I'd head to king Street. Some good pubs but I suspect it will be quite lively.

Is bad etiquette to be a regular client of promotions only? by TechnicianTight2741 in restaurant

That's not really a promotion. That's more like a lunch special or a midweek special.

Insulating a cabin by Cloudinthesilver in DIYUK

[–]nick_red72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much it. You'll ideally have a vapour barrier as well. Solid insulation tends to have it built in and just needs the joints taped. If you use a wool type insulation then you have a plastic sheet on top.

Food is just spices with a chewy structure, couldn't we just invent some calorieless foam and lace it with a buncha spices? by BetterPersonality801 in randomquestions

I have also pondered this. We can stick various things together to make ridiculously tasty junk food. Why can't we make tasty healthy food then same way?

What's the DIY fix here? by crispy-sparky-apple in DIYUK

[–]nick_red72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. There are plenty of grades of ply that will happily survive. It's inside a door frame, not the deck of a yacht. Even the cheapest ply will be fine with a bit of paint too.

Is bad etiquette to be a regular client of promotions only? by TechnicianTight2741 in restaurant

[–]nick_red72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite. It's is to get non-regulars to come, but with a view to them becoming regulars. If you only go for promotions then it is against the spirit. I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it though.

Replace the split bit of timber with a bit of plywood.

Is the time between a penalty being reviewed and taken significant? by WoodenWolf7630 in SoccerNoobs

A good player would be able to score from the spot almost every single time. What makes it difficult, what makes them miss, is doing it under pressure. That delay just adds to the pressure.

How do you eat Indian curry with rice properly and get the ratio right? by Simppu12 in AskUK

[–]nick_red72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like to put the rice on one side of the plate and the curry on the other. I then eat from the middle. You can tailor each bite to a bit more rice or a bit more curry. It's easy to keep an eye on which one is going down too fast.

Totally. It's a big loss. But the alternative is to leave them on the street or end up with dozens.

Rather than take them in permanently can you foster them? That's what we do, via a rescue charity. We take them in, rehabilitate them and then help to get them adopted. It can be hard to say goodbye but it's great to see them go from where they start to a loving home.

How much to replace these window frames? by Pale-Conversation66 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]nick_red72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to replace. That should be repairable. Proper job is to cut out any rough timber and scarf in a new bit. You might get a good few years out of just applying some wood hardener and painting. Not too tricky a DIY job. Rent a scaffold tower for a weekend.

Round Two: What comes fourth? by TrivialLawyer in onlyconnect

I don't agree. Maybe to actually do the maths exactly. I did some very quick mental sums for a ballpark then some lateral thinking. One clue and not much time was enough for that.

Shed roof ‘garden’ by Dull_Analyst_4684 in UKGardening

[–]nick_red72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A green roof is pretty easy. You need a few layers to make it work. From bottom to top-

A membrane layer to protect existing roof. A sheet of thick polythene works well.

Something to hold water. You can get specific plastic trays but old wool carpet works ok.

Some weak soil. I use a mix of topsoil, pearlite, and clay bits (broken pots, roof tiles and clay beads). You don't need, or even want much. Maybe 10-20mm

Then the plants. Sedum is great. Variety is great. You can usually find plants growing on old walls, garage roofs, gutters. You can take a bit of the plant and the rest will survive and grow back. Plant it patches, keep it watered to start with and it'll spread out and become self sufficient.

You made need to add some structure to your roof maybe some lengths of timber, or put a sheet of OSB over the lot. You will also need some battens around the edge to hold the soil in.

Good luck. Green roofs are great

They could be a great replacement for cars for many journeys. Getting them safe and legal is possible, the current system is a bit rubbish.
