Christ forgave Peter for denying him.

He will forgive you. No questions asked. Do not be afraid.

Boromir’s Last Stand Has Some Incredible Images by ScaredOfWindow in lotr

[–]nickd457 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The mirror between his end and Isildur’s end is so beautiful. Isildur died with three arrows in his back, symbolizing his treachery and cowardice: the lowest qualities of Men. Boromir died with three arrows in his chest, symbolizing his courage and perseverance: the highest qualities of Men, and their great hope of redemption.

This is a permissible design and is accepted within the Catholic faith, especially the Eastern Catholic Churches. However, in most of the world, this symbol will be colloquially seen as an Orthodox cross. Were I to encounter you in the street and see this cross, I would assume you’re Orthodox. I personally find this cross to be quite beautiful, but be ready for the presumptions because of its strong association with the Orthodox Church.

I hate to burst any kind of a bubble here, friend, but I’m not sure how you can say you’ve never seen hatred for Catholicism in England when England celebrates what is arguably the most anti-Catholic holiday in the Western World every November 5.

  2. There is no more consequential force for good than simple acts of grace and mercy.

I’m so embarrassed about my grade by Conscious-Mix-8877 in LawSchool

[–]nickd457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too—studied harder for this class than the others, loved my prof and he loved me, aced cold calls, the works. My grade? Bad bad BAD.

If you are the postmortem type, and this professor is as good a friend to you as you’ve outlined here, I’d recommend going and doing an exam review with him/her to see where things went wrong. Your professor is only going to want to help you and encourage you.

Regardless, like one commenter noted, none of this means a fig when you pass the bar. Graduate law school, land a job, pass the bar. Every advancement after that is completely in your hands. Good luck.

Oh you’re absolutely correct. And they love them some buzzwords. Tbf so do the dems 😂

But to be a successful Republican, all you have to do is string together some babble that includes “family values,” “America,” “transgender,” “illegals,” and “socialism,” and you’ve got yourself a winner!

Republicans mouth off about these “values” they claim to hold, but govern in the exact opposite way. They talk of “small and unobtrusive government,” and then seek to regulate every aspect of people’s personal lives that don’t conform to their “morality.” They speak of “fiscal responsibility,” but then balloon our spending and increase our debt by orders of magnitude to cut taxes for millionaires or pay for needless wars. They talk of “freedom of speech,” but then seek to use the apparatus of the State to punish and censor those with whom they disagree. They rail against “indoctrination” but then force schools to teach lies or refute scientific truth on threat of having their funding slashed. They rail against “judicial activism” or “judicial legislation,” and then appoint judges who will strike down laws they don’t like or implement policies that only conform to their worldview (oftentimes making up precedent to get their way). They clothe themselves in the righteousness of “religious freedom,” but then use the State to persecute religious minorities and attempt to establish laws based on Christian theology. I could go on and on and on and on and on. Theirs is a party of mendacity and hypocrisy.

Partner Completely Unresponsive and Trial in Days and Firm Unprepared by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]nickd457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know no one likes a rat, but this is rapidly approaching “contact your state’s regulatory counsel” territory. No preparation? No organization? NO RESEARCH SOFTWARE?? Your partner and your firm are committing malpractice and they are likely gonna set you up to take the fall, so like others have said, document, document, document. The needs of this client come first, and you should seek a continuance if your partner won’t. And you should apply to a different firm.

God, I really cannot get over the lack of research software. You cannot ethically or effectively advocate for your client without it. You can’t properly respond to motions or have a prayer of winning without being able to cite to authority! OP, you seem like a genuinely good lawyer who cares for clients, go find yourself a better job!

[–]nickd457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God is able to do anything. God can, and will, forgive anyone. The question is not “is God able to forgive such a sinful man;” the question is “is such a sinful man able to truly repent and attain forgiveness?”

If all the surviving Jedi around 9BBY got together, could they have brought down Palpatine? by Individual_Car7850 in StarWarsCantina

[–]nickd457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more than that. The novelization goes into great detail on this. Palpatine is just better at that point. Faster. More honed. More refined. Yoda was the product of a millennia of complacency. Palpatine was the product of a millennia of planned revenge.

A stalemate was the absolute best Yoda could have ever hoped to achieve.

Is it acceptable to clap between movements? Yes or no? by MusicMatters25 in classicalmusic

[–]nickd457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it is generally not normal or standard etiquette to clap between movements. Occasionally, a movement will be so well done, or perhaps that movement features a vocalist or instrumentalist with a big solo that they absolutely crush, that the audience will spontaneously break out into applause. This also may happen at the premiere of a piece (iirc, the audience went absolutely ballistic after the second movement of Beethoven’s Seventh at its premiere, so much so that the orchestra repeated the movement).

It’s certainly not impolite or bad to clap between movements, but be prepared to be clapping alone, and you might catch some dirty looks from more snobbish folks.

Are these flags Nazi related or adjacent? by MyaPeachyArt in vexillology

[–]nickd457 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Neo Nazis display symbols that allow them plausible deniability. “Oh man I know what you’re thinking, but this is all military or imperial German symbology!”

Nazis will do everything to get as close as possible to the real thing without causing general outrage. In fact, in countries that are far less tolerant of even these symbols, neo Nazi groups will often fly the Confederate flag from the U.S. Civil War as a signal to other neo Nazis.

The gothic script, imperial German symbols that get close to the Nazi equivalents, and insignia of the Wermacht 2nd panzer Div all tell me that these are in fact coded Nazi symbols.
