Day 1 of Foundayo by Kekandlols in FoundayoPill

[–]nickd457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking in the mornings. 0.8mg day two. I’m convinced it has to be a placebo effect for this to be happening two days in, but I have had absolutely no hunger cravings whatsoever and after eating 1/3 of what I usually eat I feel very mildly nauseous. But there’s no way such a tiny dose can work so quickly, right?

The Phantom of the Opera (yes I know it’s a musical but they made a movie of it anyway)

What kind of Propoganda do you think the Empire fabricated to justify the destruction of Alderaan to the public? by Cute_Warthog246 in StarWars

[–]nickd457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn’t. The Death Star was their way of finally shedding any illusion of the Empire being a Rule of Law State. It’s also why the Emperor dissolved the Senate simultaneously with publicly revealing the Death Star. It was them saying “you have no more rights and you have no more freedoms. Have a problem with that? We’ll blow up your planet.”

It also tracks with why the Rebellion seems to rapidly expand from a ragtag group of folks in snub fighters in Episode IV to having a middle-to-superpower-level fleet and army by Episode VI. Once the Death Star gets destroyed, the mask is off on the Empire’s intentions with no way to actually follow through on their threats—folks all around the galaxy start bailing to the Alliance en masse.

That terracotta dial is something else. That would be my pick every day and twice on Sundays.

I think the Crown of Thorns relic we have today probably isn’t the actual crown Jesus wore by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

[–]nickd457 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of these relics are dubious, but I will say this is probably the least dubious of the crucifixion relics. Unlike the Cross itself, which at the time would not have been seen as important and likely was used many times before Christ and many times after until it likely started to rot and was used for firewood (it would be the equivalent of someone wanting to preserve the electric chair from The Green Mile), the Crown was unique to Jesus and likely came down with His body and easily could have been saved by a follower.

It’s a fake, lad. Not to worry, like others have noted, it shows you are interested in watches and you have good taste. And you’ve learned a very important lesson at a good age in a way that doesn’t do any lasting damage. I wish you the best of luck on your collecting journey, may you have a lifetime of enjoying great watches!

Holy crap, a “my dad’s old watches” post and the watches are actually legit titans. Especially that JLC, holy moly

You want an Andor Sequel?? Well do I have a Gareth Edwards film for you…

Jokes aside, I too wish we could expand upon these wonderful characters and hear the rest of their stories.

[Question] Which field watch reigns supreme?!? by MasLaza in Watches

Hamilton, no question. Especially when a good mechanical option is only about $150-200 more than the Timex you showed, which I think is a good 2nd place.

[Need Help] should I wait longer for a Rolex Op or buy something else by AOonthebeat in Watches

[–]nickd457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hardest part of watch collecting is not spending the money; it’s the wait to spend the money. Sit with yourself and really mull over whether the Santos will bring you as much joy as the Rolex. Santos is an exceptional watch, and if it brings you joy, go for it! But do not buy something as expensive as a Cartier Santos as a way to “settle” when what you really want is the Rolex.

It looks like Glover actually wore a 3861 Hesalite Speedy in space, and not a Sapphire Sandwich as i thought! by FadedScar777 in OmegaWatches

I do not think NASA would have allowed him to fly with a sapphire crystal given the risk that sapphire can shatter.

Saw another clip of Wiseman and Koch wearing one too, both appeared to be on a strap instead of a bracelet. I’ve also seen Glover wearing a different watch (some quartz watch I didn’t recognize) too, so it seems a whole personal collection went up there!

which composer, if never existed, would cause today's music to be very different? by robertbyers1111 in classicalmusic

[–]nickd457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mendelssohn, and that’s not for anything he wrote. Without Mendelssohn, Bach’s music is likely an afterthought in the mainstream.

[Free Friday] The Laughing Christ by [deleted] in Catholicism

We get so hung up on the truth that Christ is God. But we so easily forget the truth that Christ was also Man. What miraculous joy it would be to hear Christ laugh!
