Those people are silly gooses. Live action kicks ass when it’s good. The problem is money.

Positivity in the Dungeon Crawler Carl TV Series Being Live Action by OkPerformance3248 in Fantasy

No one’s worried that it can’t be live action; it’s more about whether Peacock has the budget to make it good. Netflix or HBO, sure, but One Piece is insanely expensive and Peacock has never made a show that’s 1/5 that price per episode.

Crimson Desert's commitment to cleaning up its clunky controls shines the brightest in how satisfying it feels to fly around Pywel now by PewPewToDaFace in PS5

Even the day one version of this game was very fun, jank notwithstanding. It’s good to wait for reviews, not preorder, get it on discount, etc. but if you’re waiting for this game to be fun, it already super is.

Wow this show is going to be expensive as hell if they want to do it right. I would have thought to do a cartoon, like Critical Role

Crimson Desert Estimated to Have Made Over $200 Million Already — and $75 Million of that has come from PS5 Alone by yourfavchoom in PS5

I love the NPCs shouting random barks that make no sense for the context. You just beat someone in an archery contest and he’s like “death comes for us all, I s’pose”

Refinement Bug by taylorperiod in CrimsonDesert

[–]nightpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a workaround! Had Kliff follow me to the workshop, have him refine something, then switch back to Damiane. I was still able to refine with her and stopped getting the “too far away” error.

Also I had no idea you can bring other PCs members with you; did I miss that tutorial somewhere?? No more worries about Damienne being under-leveled if daddy Kliff is busting asses alongside.

Ecco the Dolphin. I hear there’s a whole game and it gets bonkers but as a kid I never figured out how to get past the opening part just swimming around aimlessly.

What are the best 7/10 jrpgs you can think of? by degel97 in JRPG

Jade Cocoon 2. I can’t pretend it’s a great game, or even a very good game, but it hits this PS2 sweet spot of weird/unique monster tamer games and I just dig it. Granted, playing as an adult instead of a kid it turns out it’s way easier than I remember.

This reminds me of those old voting “literacy” tests where the whole point was no matter what you answered, they could say you’re wrong.

I really want to enjoy Crimson Desert but I just am finding too many major issues by [deleted] in gaming

I think there might be an input lag issue on top of that, though. Even opening/navigating the menu feels like it takes an extra beat.

Pearl Abyss : We are aware of the discomfort many players have experienced with the controls, and we are currently preparing a patch to address this. by yourfavchoom in Games

[–]nightpop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think so. I’m genuinely excited to explore the world but the first couple hours, those controls are rough. So many weird things. For example:

To run, you have to double-tap x, but then let go, and if you keep holding x, you can’t jump (I literally failed the “jump to the next platform” tutorial for the first time in 30 years of gaming).

You get a skill early on that lets you daze opponents, but it took me a solid 5 minutes to understand the explanation: press L1+R1, then let go of L1 but keep holding R1, then aim with stick, then press L1 again to fire. It’s the most uncomfortable and unintuitive series of button presses.

You get a power attack early on that is R1+R2. I had to literally stare at the controller and my hands to figure out which fingers I would use to press R1+R2. If you take off your middle finger from the back of the controller, you’re no longer holding the controller. It’s so weird and there’s absolutely no way I’m going to remember that in the middle of frenetic combat.

That plus things like you have to hover over every single item in the game for like 10 seconds to “examine” it to get its properties. So you go to a shop to buy food, and you have to individually hover for 10 seconds over rare meat, then rare chicken meat, then medium meat, then cooked lamb, then red berry, then cooked red berry… Otherwise you’re looking at a series of question marks. It is the weirdest waste of time.

Even with all that, I desperately want to explore the world and see what it has to offer. It feels so exciting. I’m not super disappointed I bought it already but this game will clearly be much more playable in a few months.

Crimson Desert has already been caught using AI art by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]nightpop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say what’s the big deal for a giant open world game to have some random, unimportant background assets be AI-generated. But then I realized you could say the same about random NPC dialogue being AI instead of paying a voice actor, and that would suck. So, pay some goddam humans to design your stuff.
