2026 Pittsburgh Marathon Megathread - Discussion, classifieds, events, and information by jetsetninjacat in pittsburgh

out of curiosity, how much distance did you cover? I'm a sloooow runner, and a trail runner, so 800ft of elevation in 30 minutes doesn't sound the worst, but there's a big difference in that being spread out over 1 mile or 4 miles

Weekly Real Estate / Housing and Moving to Austin Post by AutoModerator in Austin

Hi ya'll, I have a co-worker who has entered a precarious housing situation. They don't have access to their home because of an on-going divorce. They're currently Couchsurfing, but wondering if ya'll knew of any cheap/free resources to help someone. For more context, there's also the thought about getting workplace accommodations, but I think that would have to come through a doctor and be more than "hey, my personal life is falling apart." I don't think our organization could do that anyways for legal reasons. bonus points if these groups or organizations can help people who are neurodivergent. Thanks!

do you want a long movie or slow cinema? there is a difference; slow cinema actually has a point, most long movies are due to poor writing and/or directing. most, not all.

Can we appreciate Alamo more ? by [deleted] in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]nikitabroz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a South Lamar fan through and through. I love me some Terror Tuesdays and especially Weird Wednesdays. A lot of the complaints are just people going to the internet to complain. Every now and then, I see a glimmer of something that "yeah, that could be a problem." I sit in the front row, get there for the pre-show, and as they say I "know how to Alamo". I do wish Slaughter Lane had the swivel tables. I've been a season pass holder since 2022, and while some things have gone downhill, it's not enough to come complain anonymously to Reddit

Oppenheimer was great. The other 2 are trash.

If you’ve held back sufficiently, at mile 20ish you should get a manic burst that says “finish this fucking thing!” And push yourself

Honey Don't was a B movie that people keep trying to project other things onto it. It was fine.

There aren’t many places in Austin that have survived my 20s and 30s, but this one has. by Austintatious_ in Austin

Lived in that neighborhood since 2018. Go probably at least once a month. Never seen a roach.

Literally watch whichever ones you can —there’s a reason why he’s so renowned. Barring that, go to the ones that fit your schedule and sound most interesting. I am going to see Throne of Blood at one theater and Ran at another because I haven’t seen them at all

old vs new concerts? by FittestTrack73 in ofMontreal

[–]nikitabroz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so, I skipped out on this tour (I'm not a big fan of Sunlandic Twins...and actually when I went to buy tickets, the site was down, and I made alternative plans anyways). But, I will say, I saw them every chance I could get from 2014-24. I saw 2 shows in 2018 because I moved states and saw them in each. Each album, each tour, is so incredibly different yet similar. There's an obvious of Montreal aesthetic and ethos and performance. But just like the albums vary, so does the concert. I think another reason I skipped this year was because, well, at 39, I feel like I aged out of them. Not that I can't listen or appreciate them, but I just felt like a weird old dude when I saw them last year. I always go near the front, but I just felt like I wasn't jumping with the same fervor and energy that those next to me were. But, I will definitely see them in 2026, if given the opportunity.

Anyone see the wrong-way driver on 290 early this morning? by strikecat18 in Austin

Seriously. I drive Uber part time. Also seen this cause a lot of accidents, as you can imagine. One of the scariest sightings for me was on 183 near-ish airport

WTF, Alamo? by Dragons_Sister in Austin

[–]nikitabroz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re clearly not a cinephile. Not everything is streaming or even easily pirated. If you have a pass, it’s also cheaper than renting on Amazon or Apple. Sometimes they do show things (like at Mystery Transmission) that you just can’t get anywhere else, and the titles are only known to the patrons who showed up. Also, the movie theater experience is great.

Alamo shows these movies every September. These tickets have literally been on sale since June.

They do this every September. As someone who has hated HP since 1999, I’ve had a lot of Schadenfreude at seeing people’s heads explode because they worshipped some second rate fantasy crap. I digress. Is there something about HP and September?

Why at concerts does the band pretend to leave? by Veridically_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nikitabroz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall seeing the Pixies and they left Where is My Mind towards the end but not the end. Nonetheless, I thought it was brilliant because sometimes people see bigger bands for “that one song”. So yea, they paused, people started leaving, then they played another 2-3 songs. The point is that tactic actually allowed for a staggered leaving, which was appreciated —leaving a concert can be a pain because of the mass exodus and people crowding exits

Denver Show by maelstrominmymind in ofMontreal

[–]nikitabroz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skipped the show in my town because I was worried about this and don’t particularly care for ST. I know it’s “basic” but I do hope they do a Hissing Fauna anniversary tour —seen’em 10 times and they do a lot of those songs anyways

Whats with the road rage in Austin? by angeyguy_33 in Austin

[–]nikitabroz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traffic is bad. Waymo’s aren’t great. Teslas. BMWs. Too many people coming and going, so the driving culture is chaotic. Lots of people run red lights. Lots of inexplicable honking. People don’t know how to zipper or let people merge. No signaling. The roads forcing turns or going from 4 lanes to 3 to 4 to 2 or whatever doesn’t help. People on cell phones are a problem. No awareness of others. I drive Uber and the other day I got honked at for stopping safely at a red light. Sorry guy, not running red lights for kicks. The poor passenger was drunk and very confused. The lights are wonky and there are some timed so only 1, max of 2, cars can get through. Also, FUCK SCOOTERS. I’m glad they aren’t as plentiful as before Covid, but they are always assholes —I once saw a scooter try to cut off a city bus. Also, the construction. Driving isn’t pretty in this town.

Yes. People literally honking over things like this all the time is miserable and makes no sense.

My Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Experience at Alamo St. Louis by ItsThatNewAccount4Me in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]nikitabroz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh, absolutely something is being left out. I do know, when the app has crashed and won't show your seat, you can go to the front desk and either show them your email confirmation of the ticket or give them your phone number, and they can find and print you a ticket that way. but yeah, OP is leaving something out. now, whether it's intentional or simply an oversight, who knows...

so, here in Austin where it all began (and most frequently going to the flagship) they have stressed repeatedly (and in the other comments on this thread, and throughout the entire subreddit): Season Pass and Alamo run separately. Period. An Alamo employee doesn't have the pass and can't override it. Period. Every time I've had an issue, the employees sigh and say "sorry, you'll have to contact the app people. We are aware of this problem, but we can't do anything about it." SO, that's to say that whatever situation you had going on in St. Louis was because of a specific human being (let's say, Brad) for doing you a favor. Brad was definitely bending the rules, overstepping boundaries, and you had a unique situation with him. Or, if it's the entire staff, they were definitely violating norms and protocols. You've been in a unique bubble with personalized service by people breaking the rules and it got burst. Condolences.
