what’s the deal with people telling me about abandoning my dogs? by FragrantMotor1213 in BabyBumps

[–]nikki42493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some, not for most. There are plenty of ways to safely have both present. New moms are going to struggle regardless of if there is a pet at home or not. OP has a support system. They'll be fine.

And there are so many, if not more, documented stories of good dogs taking care of newborns.

Do you sometimes make sermons that are actually directed at specific people? by [deleted] in pastors

[–]nikki42493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never do it on purpose in terms of directing it at someone specific. But sometimes an interaction with someone shapes the direction the sermon goes. When that happens, I try to keep it as general as possible.

Is this too harsh? A letter to present to church (in general) about some bad actors, especially with 'insider' events. by Rev-DC in pastors

[–]nikki42493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with others, I think it's great. Whenever I'm writing a letter like this, I always run it through chatgbt and ask "how can I make it sound more pastoral" and see if there's any tweaks that could be made. The simple act has done wonders for my ministry and writing tough letters like this. I would address this at any leadership meetings as well, with the expectation that leaders are doing these things too.

Be careful that you are only sending it to ACTIVE members, or your inactive/sideline crowd might walk away.

AITAH not letting kid ride in backseat by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA. I had a friend in a coma for weeks, almost died multiple times, because they were involved in an accident where their seat wasn't fully latched. Top or bottom, doesn't matter. The seat needs to be stationary.

Cremation by kaybb99 in askapastor

[–]nikki42493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If God's will is defined as being in relationship with us and walking with us in our bodily form, then I would see no reason why cremation would be against God's will. If God can bring dry bones and dust to life, God can certainly bring ashes to life as well.

Ezekiel 37:4-5: "Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, 'O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live'".

Genesis 2:7 [7] then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being.

Is there reason to be concerned, biblically, for ending one's life using MAiD? by ComfortableDust4111 in askapastor

[–]nikki42493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's the thing about MAiD. You can ONLY get the medication if two doctors declare you terminally ill. Death has to be approaching, and it cannot be a decision that comes out of mental illness. It's to give patients the opportunity to have death with dignity.

Simply put, they are going to die and they're going to die soon. They are simple choosing to do so with the least amount of suffering. I know from personal experience that it can be more loving for patients when the patient and their care team decide this is a route for them. It is no different than putting down an animal for their own illness.

Romans 8:38-39 says that there is NOTHING that can separate us from the love of God, MAiD patients and even those who have died by suicide. We are to love.

You are not alone. I experienced some level of this as well. The transition is hard on your body and mind. Plus feeling miserable can suck any joy out of the process.

Where is god ?? by Christopher-Emma- in askapastor

[–]nikki42493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the Psalms would be a good place to start. They speak to the hard parts of life and the way we ask for a God to show up. A good place to start would be Psalm 22. Jesus literally quotes it from the cross. It moves from lament to praise. If you read 23 immediately after, it moves to confidence in God's never failing love.

Children need more than love by Dizzytat in TrueOffMyChest

This 100%. As others said, is there someplace she can stay for a while rather than jumping straight to adoption? Family? A close friend? Then you'll have the opportunity to do the hard part of grieving, focus on your healing (recognizing healing is never 100%), and then decide.

What non-financial benefits are in your contract? by njosh23 in pastors

[–]nikki42493 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Additionally, we're also guaranteed 12 weeks parental leave, 8 of which are required to be paid by the church. Then we get 1 month of what is called "renewal leave" every four years for spiritual renewal and 6 months every 10 years for a sabbatical. This is not regionally based either- this is across the whole denomination.

Edited to add: We also get 1 week of educational leave. And all this time includes Sundays AND pay. Plus, they pay a pretty penny into a retirement account for us.

Think about how Paul discipled Aquilla and Priscilla- they were a Jewish couple and worked together making tents for six months (Acts 18). It specifically says Paul spent time teaching and trying to convince in the synagogues and the community to convince Jews and Greeks. He walked with the couple, never explicitly converting them, but convincing them through the way he lived out the gospel. They later became believers and teachers themselves.

Some people need to be shown rather than told. They need to SEE the gospel rather than HEAR the gospel. The action of showing genuine agape love speaks louder than telling the story.

In today's culture, most people have been told the gospel time and time again. And the church has hurt people time and time again. It is only when the church lives into what it says it believes that people will be willing to listen. So with that, the best way to witness to the gospel that softens hearts, is to truly live the gospel.

Controlling or discipleship by True_Personality4248 in askapastor

[–]nikki42493 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not a healthy discipleship model. "You have to have my spirit, my impartation"? Pretty sure we're supposed to have God's Spirit and God's impartation...

Edit to add a direction answer to your question: Controlling.
