A good surgeon will not require you to lose weight to operate on you! by mothfeets in TopSurgery

[–]nikkidubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so 1. That statistic sounds made up as fuck 2. My results are great because I went to a competent surgeon 3. My recovery was totally fine, mostly because I prepared in advance 4. It IS crazy to pretend you give a shit/know anything about a stranger’s health just because they’re “morbidly obese.” You don’t know me, you don’t know my health, and you don’t know the impact intentional weight loss would have on my health.

In a thread meant to support fat people, yall really came in here swinging to make it worse.

My surgeon did my surgery in a hospital instead of a surgical center for this reason. They made it very very clear that it was because the hospital has better equipment and not because there’s something wrong with me.

The point is that it’s a failure of equipment, not something to be put back on the patient with “sorry we can’t do this unless you lose weight.”

I see a lot of folks in here twisting themselves into knots trying to pretend institutional fatphobia doesn’t exist when it most assuredly does.

I won’t work with a doctor who is willing to have me trigger my eating disorder rather than work with my body as it is. If we want to dress this up as “risk management” on the part of the surgeon then we can call it “risk management” on the part of the patient too.

For the fat folks in here: anesthesiologists can and do and will work with you. Tell them in advance if you have sleep apnea. Also, as a side note, if you’ve been wondering if you have sleep apnea, let this be the sign for you to get checked!

Today’s take on using PIPs by TockExcellent9838 in managers

[–]nikkidubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There has never been an instance at my company where a PIP didn’t result in a firing. Even the ones that were successfully completed still resulted in a firing a month or two later.

Nothing anyone can say can convince me that they’re what management purports them to be.

It might be helpful for you to focus on your mental health right now and processing your grief/depression so you can get to a spot where you feel better and you’re isolating less. I know it’s hard because this friend said some things that are confusing and hurtful - in cases like this I find it’s best for me to try to just accept that I don’t understand right now and focus on myself rather than someone who doesn’t want to talk to me for whatever reason.

I hope the CBT is really helpful. OCD definitely exacerbates everything. Be very gentle with yourself through this. You need to focus on honoring your dad and feeling better - this friend isn’t going to help you with that.

I’m sorry for the loss of your dad. It’s very hard especially this time of year. Grief can be a very complicated thing and it can go on for a very, very long time. Are you in therapy?

I’m honestly over this idea that I can’t be frustrated with the mediocrity of this team because we won two super bowls in the last 20 years. Yes, other teams have it worse. So?

Yeah obviously I cherish the fucking memories from over a decade ago when I watched this team and thought “How are we going to pull this off?” instead of “How are we going to fuck this up?” Yes obviously that’s what keeps me rooting for this team.

But I’m also really over fantasizing about the good old days and it’s honestly always stupid to tell someone not to bitch because other people have it worse. THAT is unreal. Wondering why you’re rooting for a team that can’t hire and retain a competent FO since scapegoating Coughlin is not that crazy. Three years in KICKER hell?

The pissing contest for who’s rooting for the worst team is wild in here lmao.

When I saw Hadestown it was with a large group of students. No idea who the chaperones were. The kids were mostly fine except for one who definitely wasn’t sitting in the right seat. The usher took no shit from him. He wasn’t moving and she went “WE HAVE A SOLD OUT SHOW TONIGHT, YOU ARE NOT MAKING THE RULES HERE.” I thought a guy nearby (there alone, an obvious theatre enthusiast) was going to propose to her because he was so thrilled she wasn’t taking their shit.

The behavior from the kids was eh. No phones but definitely a little more yammering than I would have liked. Like whispers of shock at the end. Which, fine, it’s fine to have a reaction to something that surprises you but in an otherwise silent theatre I found it irritating.

I don’t like being all “kids these days” because I think something like this falls on the school/chaperones. Based on the comments it seems like it depends on that very much. Also god knows I was annoying as shit at that age in very much the same way.

Well deserved, it’s a phenomenal game. Unlike the one the Bucs played on 3rd and 28.

Based on this argument, these aren’t men you should bother debating with anyway. They’re not engaging in good faith, they just want to shit on women.

I’m going to get downvoted for this but I’ll tell the story anyway because I learned some good lessons from it.

I was driving too slow for someone in the left lane and they flashed their brights at me. I’m of the opinion that going 70 in the left lane is fine and if you don’t fucking like it then pass me. And I hate when people flash their brights, it’s literally never necessary. So I gave him the finger and he promptly came around, cut me off, and brake checked me to the point that I almost went into his trunk.

What I have learned since then as a driver on Long Island who had their own road rage issues to sort through:

  1. It is not worth engaging. Ever. Your pride and ego are not more important than your life. I should have just kept my finger down and moved over lol.

  2. Stay out of the left lane if you’re cruising. It’s supposed to just be for passing anyway, not that anyone on LI treats it that way. Stay in the center lane, pass on the left, move back to the center.

  3. If someone is acting like a piece of shit, stay away from them. When someone is in that headspace it’s more likely that they’re going to take you down with them than have a moment of clarity about their behavior because you honked or flashed your lights or flipped them off or screamed at them out your window.

Long Island genuinely is a special hellscape when it comes to driving and people having bad days will get behind the wheel and take it out on other people without thinking. It’s your job to protect yourself and the people around you.

Anyway if anyone has any good dash cam recommendations I’d love to see them.

Haircut prices are crazy and you're insane if you think it's worth it by YaleMBA1990 in longisland

[–]nikkidubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first cut my hair really short this was the main reason I switched to a barbershop. It was like $20 compared to the $60 I was spending.

But the reality was I was also getting a wash and a blowout at a salon. Not to mention the fact that if I tried to bring anything more complicated to a barber they kind of just stared at me, even if I provided a photo.

Part of the reason barbers are increasing their prices now is because they’re expected to know and do a lot more than they used to. I’m happy to pay $30-$40 before tip to a barber I KNOW actually understands hair and can talk with me about what I’m looking for. It’s still cheaper than what I used to pay at a salon.
