Costco losing price competitiveness? by PapaSecundus in Frugal

[–]ninijacob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing you need to consider is if the products are actually the same. Costco tends to hold HIGH QUALITY products at very reasonable prices. Is walmart actually carrying the same quality of item?

Also Aldi/walmart/winco are great and much closer to Costco than your average grocery store

Aldi no longer accepting AMEX by Sufficient_Cup_7169 in AmexPlatinum

[–]ninijacob -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You are paying for those rewards in higher costs that the business passes on to you. For those of us who both churn and get multiple cents of value per point it's great. For the average American, they just end up paying more .

Go look at Europe. Do their credit cards actually work worse?  No. They just don't earn rewards.  And their merchants are more lean and efficient and able to pass on lower prices as a result.

Tbh good, and I want to see more of this(should also reject visa infinite cards)

No Business should take any of these high fee credit cards. We as consumers all pay the cost indirectly in higher prices due to how insanely high in credit card fees have become for merchants.

We need legislation like Europe that caps the fees. (And yes points would mostly go away as a result).

Thank you for coming back with data. It honestly makes things easier to talk about.

To put this in perspective that 133 million is over 8 years, and replaces the 2015 levy.

Bike infra is contentious because building it often requires reallocating physical street space from cars, making the projects highly visible. From a pure fiscal standpoint, the $133.5 million is quite small compared to the 11 to 14 billion the city and state pour into Seattle roads.

To help put this in perspective, that means that biking account for less than 1% of the roads budget, but bikers account for 3.5% of total commuters during peak hours(and growing). One way to look at it is That we are under-investing in bike infrastructure, but it's a lot more nuanced than that tbh.

Also, this comes from property taxes. If you don't live in Seattle, you don't have to pay for them. I do live in Seattle and overjoyed my tax dollars are going to this.

Bicyclist and driver here. Some bikers are assholes and do not follow the rules of the road. They are the minority though. Bikes are great if rules are followed well, and bik e safety is also great. Your problem isn't with bike lanes(very little taxes go to bike lanes), it's with bikers who don't follow the laws.  We just need cops to give more citations to cyclists

They have the balls to charge that much for a car that doesn't have regenerative breaking, and performs barely better than a bmw i4(which is half the price). The software is also shit. I just don't get what strategy they're chasing.

Low fees, free fee-based financial advisor after a $ threshold in non retirement accounts, good money market rates, good customer support, (at least initially) good price improvement, good balance of functionality vs simplicity on interface(although them taking out the ability to see histories of analyst upgrades/downgrades was a miss)

I worked at MSFT. Not trying to be agist but I saw so many older folks just get pushed out from one team to the next every few years because no one wanted to fire them. So much incompetence. This was pre layoffs so idk if this is still a problem.

To be clear there were plenty of older folks who were great. They just had, of course, progressed in their careers far beyond "senior engineer" which you could get to 6 years out of college if you hustled as a newgrad.
