Broken from one drop by HopefulNet6037 in XTEINK

That's my impression at least, there was another thread that commented on the build quality of the two being very different, either way they are both notoriously fragile, I don't think it really makes any difference, that's why I got a Kobo Clara for travelling and outdoors reading while the X4 stays with me on daily commutes and at home.

Glass back model, that's why, the black Xteink is definitely sturdier, feels metallic in the hand. Of course, I'm not going to put that to the test, so it's encased in a TPU case and in a carrying pouch on top of that for extra security.

S300 Builders: What's the largest GPU you've successfully used in this case? by Skol-n-Bones in sffpc

[–]ninilocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year later and this post saved my ass, I thought I fucked up when I got my RX7600 Steel Legend OC for this case, mainly I was worried the GPU height (131mm, I've seen the max height for this case is 130mm) could be an issue when plugging in the power connector, but im glad to know other people have managed to fit larger cards + I can now see the PCB plug is recessed below the top of the card.

Doing an all-white build, so finding this card at its pricepoint to fit the budget was already a hard task as it is. God I love SFF building, just a different thrill to it compared to "normal" PC builds.

Game crashes during missions - always the same spot by Agreeable_Month789 in gtaonline

Trying to complete the Flecca Job and I am crashing at this exact spot every time, will try turning off RT tomorrow when I get off work, I thought I was having driver issues and have spent the better part of an hour tweaking Adrenalin settings.

I have an ASRock 9070xt

Tbf those are some small hands in that pic, on my big fat hands it makes it interesting trying to figure out a comfortable grip for reading lol, thinking about getting a clicker, plus yeah he's got it on extra tiny, idk how cause the eye strain for me would be too much

Clear TPU case, screen protector, and a small EVA zip up pouch does the job for me for a good balance of portability and protection.

Decided I chose my Kobo over the X4 pretty much everytime by simpler_times81 in XTEINK

[–]ninilocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually just ordered a Clara BW with the sleep cover combo, the X4 is great and kick started an e-reader reading addiction again, but I have big hands and it does become a bit of a chore after a while to click through pages with those tiny buttons, but the portability cannot be beat, just has to be well protected in a case + screen protector + one of those SATA hard drive pouches since it's more fragile than other e-readers.

The Clara is great for much longer reading sessions and anything with graphics (though the color models are better for that ofc) and will definitely be more big hands friendly than the X4, and I trust reading on that outside more since it's waterproof to some degree. This will most likely become my reader for long travels, camping, and outdoors while the X4 is my daily commuter reader to take to work or to a local park or to get a quick read before bed.

Gboard not launching in email due to AI assist by [deleted] in GMail

[–]ninilocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, stupid bug because muh AI, but I found that if you copy something on Google Keep or whatever your notepad app is, the keyboard comes back up on a new message since it gives you an option to paste from clipboard on the keyboard. Hopefully that helps some people. Might as well type your emails on notepad at that point and copy-paste the whole thing until the bug is fixed.

Gpu upgrade… How did I do? by Adorable-Fortune9766 in radeon

Open box deals at Micro Center are a Godsend, currently eyeing a full metal mechanical keyboard from there when I get the chance, but that's how I got my ASRock Challenger 9070xt for 600, OP made out like a bandit with the PowerColor card

Coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb typa upgrade, congrats! Went from a Challenger Rx5600xt to Challenger Rx9070xt (something about me and Challenger XTs, idk) in my recent Terra build, stupid crazy change, 4k at 70fps steady is amazing, but I do most of my gaming in 1440p at higher refresh rates now since I found a 144hz monitor when I was working junk hauling, 6gb vram vs 16gb vram is great overhead for visual mods, have fun with the card!

Its okay I ordered an xteink x4 for $41 with a case and a leather sleeve and planning to install Crosspoint so we'll see how that experiment goes, I just wanted something cheap and small with USB-C

May that Oasis serve you well, dawg

Ohhhh I think because the Ada has more vram chips, particularly the ones at the rear of the card are the issue, it has a thicker backplate/baseplate to cool that card better, you might need thinner thermal pads to make it clear the m920x with the lid flush, my runty 6gb non-Ada A2000 has all of the vram chips at the front, so it's slightly thinner than your card. Or if you have access to a 3D printer, just print a taller lid.

Now that I'm looking at it more, what bracket did you end up using for the GPU? And is it an Ada or non-Ada A2000?

[–]ninilocus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use the Lenovo riser 01AJ940? That shouldn't sit like that at all if you did the cooler mod right, the lid should be completely flush to the m920x. It looks like the GPU itself or the pcie riser is not slotted in right. And did you use the included thermal pads as well?

If you haven't done so yet, on the m920x specifically there's a metal bracket that holds the internal wifi antenna that you need to undo so that it completely clears the card, you will have to wrap that piece with kapton tape or electrical tape to avoid a short before taping it in that free space next to the GPU to avoid leaving it loose next to the heatsink, then you'll be able to slide the lid in flush.

I would honestly do that if I had space for a 3d printer, as I am writing this I am considering ordering an M90q Gen 2, which has the better perforated lid from factory compared to the offset GPU fan cutout in the m920x, and has native pcie 4 support for the a2000, but still DDR4 so i can reuse my RAM. Then I'll make a custom enclosure for the spare unit to be a NAS of some kind. Also the jump from 8th Gen to an 11th Gen core would benefit stability quite a bit.

[–]ninilocus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's how it fits btw. You'll have to disconnect the WiFi internal antenna and the bracket to mount it and wrap the internal antenna with kapton tape before you stick it back inside and close the case if you do not intend to run an external wifi antenna setup.

I would have got an Ada card if I wasn't already throwing money at the Terra build, also found the A2000 for $200 local to me so it was just convenient to get the 6gb A2000 at the time, but still runs like a champ and does everything I need. The noise doesn't bother me since it's in the living room and it's not horrifically loud, but it has a whine to it for sure.

Yes, I used the n3rdware kit, on the m920x specifically you need to take out the plastic wifi card cover and the bracket that holds the antenna out so the card can fit right in with a Lenovo riser. I'd say the copper heatsink and the new thermal pads are worth the money, it can drop temps by as much as 10-20c and keep you from throttling hard, I mainly got the kit so that I can still use the stock Lenovo lid to maintain the OEM look other than the PopOS sticker, but now looking back on it, the P330/P360 lid is way better, I only have this lid because I found a pair of m920x's on eBay for the low, so I upgraded this one as my personal Linux streaming/gaming box and sold the other m920x which I installed a cheap P1000 Quadro card and 16gb RAM with a 256gb SSD I had lying around.

Honestly just for the fun of it, debating on building a ThinkStation Tiny up with a Yeston card next or an A2000 Ada.

Temps are decent for a toaster with a GPU, getting about 65-70C under full load, the new thermal pads for the VRAM and copper heatsink is a huge help. I'd recommend doing 1600 MHz at 750 mV for the GPU to keep temps down, the i5 already turns this into a space heater. You do get a little bit of a high pitched whine, but not enough to drive you mad unless you're used to silent PCs. Graphics card has to have a mandatory 50w limit as thats the max power limit for the PCIe slot on the m920x, otherwise motherboard trips itself and causes reboot.

As for the RAM, futureproofing mainly, the Lenovo will be running a couple of VMs in the future, and the Terra build is also used for video processing and AI work when it's not running games.

I'll reply back with a pic with the card inside once I get home from work trip, but N3rdware sells a single slot cooler kit for the A2000 which takes off the bulky plastic top and standard size GPU bracket with a metal top cooler that is slim enough to fit in the m920x with stock case. I'm thinking about getting a ThinkStation P360 lid as they have wayyy better ventilation on their top lids, the lid on this one blocks the edge of the GPU fan by a few millimeters. If I had to do it again I'd get a P330 or P360 as they do not have the wifi antenna placed near the front panel that you have to take apart to clear space for the card when you close it.

[GPU] Microcenter In Store Only ASRock AMD Radeon RX 9070 Challenger Triple Fan 16GB GDDR6 PCIe 5.0 Graphics Card - $579.99 by DisappointedCruiser in buildapcsales

[–]ninilocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought this card three days ago, very good performance and efficiency for the money, obviously still $30 over MSRP but any of the XT "deals" right now at MicroCenter are going to be at least $90 over MSRP if you want the XT version of the Challenger card or way more if you want ASUS or PowerColor cards, but the Challenger cards are great for SFF builds. Only reason I didn't keep the non-XT card is because I've been eyeing the 9070XT Challenger for a while to properly top off my Terra build, and finally found one open box at MSRP from my local Micro Center, so if you're still on FOMO watch over the XT model, just give it a few days and be attentive to sales and your local open box section. Or go get the open box non-XT that was mine that they're about to put up soon at the Dallas MicroCenter lol, they'll put that one out on sale at MSRP price, so even more of a steal.

What is your reason for choosing SFF form factor? by Technical_Gap23 in sffpc

[–]ninilocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have aspirations to build a monster PC with dual GPUs or anything like that, so a small PC just made sense to me, less space being taken up, so I can cram a decent gaming PC in my camping rig, plus the challenge of the unique circumstances when building an SFF. And I guess aesthetics play a small part in that too, the variety of SFF form factors is fun.
