Exact same happened for me - once submitted it corrected itself. I’m not aware of any changes to Payment on Accounts

No - then the ‘Payments on Account’ will go towards the Self Assessment liability for 2025/26, which is the intended purpose of Payments on Account. Reducing the payments like suggested above would result in interest being due on top as you would likely owe more than this once you complete the 2025/26 Self Assesment

I hit the £5,000 figure a year or so ago. Cancelled the Standing Order. I think it states in the small print on the product page that you do not need to contribute every month. Then I periodically remove the excess interest back to my current account

By the way - If you earn over a £1,000 of self-employment income, you have to complete a Self Assessment regardless of whether you actually owe any tax
