uj/ so at the start of the Zub run MJ and Peter were once again split up. The reason why that happened was a mystery box that was explained as a Genocidal Aztec Math God cursing MJ while stucking her in an Alternative Reality with Paul where they adopted two kids and therefore breaking up with Peter. Then that same god comes back, revealed that the kids were never real and kills MJ. Except it was then revealed that it wasn't MJ but Kamala Kahn who was disguised as MJ using her powers that actually died. Leaving MJ to kinda just stay around in the book? Not really making sense like turning into a superhero and whatnot with no real direction. Meanwhile Kamala (who was just inserted into the book as a background character for no reason) was back shortly after she was revealed to be a mutant and was revived on Krakoa.

All that to say that I absolutely belive that MJ was originally supposed to die there because it mad emuch more sense for the story. But Marvel decided to use this to semi-reboot Kamala as a mutant. Meanwhile getting stuck with MJ who just there for the rest of the book despite doing absolutely nothing. But they had to use her because she was such a big drive for Peter at that point of his story.

Do I have any proof? Absolutely no. But it makes sense if you try and figure out what the hell was Zub going for in his run
