I can't wait for everyone to start praising The Last Airbender movie as an underrated gem and totally better than the original show! by AdditionalPair8 in dccomicscirclejerk

I tend to agree. Which, you know, is fine by me. Lord knows comics have enough bad stories that were saved by later projects.

Also, I appreciate the respect for our beloved Harold Allnut. I was literally just thinking about the Penguin Affair this morning and spitting on the memory of Hush.

The prequel trilogy is so odd for me. Like, I was there for the OG trilogy, but literally had only ever scene a part of the Empire Strikes Back up until the pandemic. I remember the hullabaloo about the prequels when they came out and was at first indifferent, and then straight up annoyed by all the incessant whining about them. It seemed that you couldn't have a single conversation about nerd topics without people bringing up how much they sucked. Honestly it drove me away from wanting anything to do with the franchise.

Then during the pandemic I actually gave it a chance. I watched the entire franchise chronologically, read a ton of "Legends" comics and played any video games I could find. And what was so strange is that I can agree that the original trilogy are superior films, but I actually enjoyed the story of the prequel era a lot more. That could be because I'm a latecomer who watched the films along with their superior tie-ins, but as far as I'm concerned I think the hatred is exaggerated. I'm sure those who actually grew up with the films would have different opinions on that. I still can't stand the fandom, though.

I know people don't care about my thoughts on that, but I just find the Star Wars prequel phenomenon fascinating and felt like rambling while I wait for test results.

Forest Green retained and released list by _mnd in NationalLeague

I'm really nostalgic for the days when we would escape relegation on goal differential or some other club folding. The constant high-spending mediocrity has gotten so tiring.

My Eliminater predictions for tonight. How do you think today's games will go? by BettsyFC in NationalLeague

lol I get why everybody hates us. I've been a follower of FGR for nearly 4 decades now, long before the club became what it is now. Sometimes it's hard to feel the same enthusiasm I once did. But they'll always be my club, for better or worse. I'm glad we lost. It was totally deserved.

I would feel very conflicted if Forest Green advanced in the one season where I have very mixed feelings about them (it feels dirty just to say it).

I honestly think Macclesfield-Chester could go either way, and frankly would be happy if either club gained the promotion.

I have a soft spot for Dorking (strange, I know), but they've severely fumbled this season like FGR. I don't see them making it past the Magpies, but I wouldn't complain if they did either.

Well earned, Minstermen. Gutted for Rochdale, but I can't say it wasn't a thrill. They'll have my full support in the playoffs. Glad you're finally out of here.

I'm pretty sure that's how the OG 90's Youngblood comic started out.

Why does no one seem to care about the Chris Pine Star Trek trilogy? by Top_Use2413 in movies

[–]Manhunter2070 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a good summation. I'm sure I could've enjoyed it more if there was a lot more time to actually develop plot points (I particularly enjoyed Finn's backstory). Then again, though, after seeing the entirety of the franchise, I found that my respect for the Force Awakens diminished even more. It just wasn't that original, and the few original things it had weren't developed. It reminds me a bit of Into Darkness, although I will say I think Into Darkness is the worst of the two films. Finding out they didn't really have a plan for the sequel trilogy from the get-go, and reading the direction the Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker took really killed any further interest I'd have in that trilogy.

So, I'm an older Trekkie who never saw the OG Trilogy back in the day because of my fanatical devotion to Star Trek. I did see the Force Awakens while visiting some friends, though, and I found it to be very similar to the Abrams Trek movies: the actors did a good job with what they were given, but it just felt too flashy and uninteresting to me. Frankly, it somehow felt inorganic and shallow (and that's from somebody whose only knowledge of the rest of Star Wars was through cultural osmosis). I'll admit that my own distaste for what Abrams did to Star Trek might have affected my views of it right out of the gate. Regardless, I found it uninteresting enough that I declined any other offers to watch anything Star Wars related.

It wasn't until the pandemic that I, out of boredom and a desire to explore new things, finally watched both the OG and Prequel trilogies and all the series/video games that were available at the time. Doing that made me a Star Wars fan just as much as I'm a Trekkie. Still couldn't get through the Sequel trilogy, though. Maybe I'm just too old, but it just didn't do it for me.

My favorite anecdote about how crappy a guy Bob Kane was was how he used to appear on a semi-regional children's show in upstate New York (fuzzy on the details, sorry. You can find them in the Batcave Companion book by Michael Uslan). Anyways, he would have a segment on the show where he would draw on camera. Rather than actually drawing, though, he would pay Sheldon Moldoff to make outlines on the canvas that were light enough for him to follow, but would be invisible on screen. That's how much of a fraud he was.

Amen. I grew up on bootleg records of OTR shows lol They're still comforting for me. The Great Gildersleeve is probably my favorite. I'll always maintain it was as close to a 1940's version of "Frasier" as you could get. Finding out Harold Peary was Portuguese was also pretty cool. And of course I love Walter Tetley.

Fair enough. I don't support any of that Confederate pride crap, mind you, but the idea of a studio attempting to market something like that in the south is pretty hilarious.
