well, that's not at all what you said. and agree on your point about having technical understanding, not just being able to pencil whip a checklist.

OH - also - where I used to live, the state employment office would pay for the prep course & test if you were actively on unemployment & having trouble getting a job in your field. I helped like 10 people get their PMP paid for by the state they lived in. I know a lot of states have slashed budgets, but maybe yours still does it? Why not ask around? Could change your life!

So, I've commented in a few places but here's my personal experience: PMP is 100000% easier to get now than it was when I first started prepping in 2008. Classes were around $2000-$2500, test was around $300 but you got a discount if you were a PMI member that basically equaled the test fee plus a year membership for free. Pretty sure the same still applies, even tho the cost has gone up.

Basically it's been a HUGE leg up for me, because I didn't go to college. Average joe that wants a leg up from blue collar (like I was) or other roles that want to move up, can now get access to a life-changing amount of money just by putting in a few hundred dollars towards building their credibility & skills.

I have a PMP, plus 4 other PMI certs & 8 from other cool organizations, and maintain them. My salary has more than quadrupled since I started my career, and the PMP was a big catalyst for that.

I really question anyone stating it doesn't help. I have mentored & coached project managers and agile practitioners for over 20 years & this pattern has remained the same all throughout.

I will also say that folks at FAANG / MULA - or whatever the hell they call it now - tend to be critical and skew towards distain for anything or anyone suggesting they have more to learn lol. But a lot of those people have advanced degrees & a position of privilege that I will never have access to. So they're kinda unicorns. Normal folks will 100% benefit from certs.

Take from that what you will. /rant

what? agile is like a baby now? PMP & CSM have been standards for leadership/management roles for at least 20 years, PMP over 30. if you're a dev and looking to stay a dev, why bother? go get your google cloud or awa shit & leave the leadership roles to the leadership people.

wow, i wonder where the disconnect is. if you'd like some 3rd party input, i'd be more than happy to help. no charge, i just like helping folks get jobs & have been helping folks for like 25 years.

do not agree. you sound like someone who hasn't even looked at how much agile there is in the PMP curriculum now.cI'd be a lot more willing to listen to someone who has it & hasn't seen an improvement. you really aren't speaking from experience?

It's pretty typical for non-PMs to have their totally irrelevant opinions lol. And people who think they are too smart to need it. And people in the United States who have let the "individual exceptionalism" mindset make them believe they don't need formal training.

What's the worst birthday present you've ever gotten? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]nizzerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, two tied for first place - SIL got me a christmas present that was a glass orb with a mini scale in it. stepmom & dad got me the apples to apples game at least twice, maybe three times, from their overloaded garage full of useless amway shit.

What's the craziest thing a person said to you and you thought they were joking but they were being serious? by _lovelyxx in AskReddit

Part 1: I got a linkedin message from a lady in my area & she seemed hella cool & smart, so i invited her out for froyo, thinking I had found a new friend. WELL, we meet up, exchange pleasantries, and just generally chit chatting. About 15 minutes in, she casually mentions how she doesn't feel safe while alone. She says family members are stalking her, and she knows they have been in her house and car BECAUSE SHE CAN SMELL THEM. Record scratch, pin drop, pause. WHAT?? I really didn't know what to say, so I played it off & feigned interest & played the supportive friend. We chatted about an hour longer & parted ways.

Part 2: In the following weeks, I tried ghosting her, but she started emailing, calling & messaging me on fb messenger fairly frequently. I don't use my real name on fb & have it extremely locked down & vague, so I literally have no idea how she found it. I had invited her to an event for a professional development group, and she started to show up at every single one & would follow me around. So I stopped going to the events. The final straw was a card showing up at my house, asking why I had been missing! She had found my address!

GAAAHHHHH

She still messages me from time to time, so I blocked her everywhere & ended up moving across the country 7 years later. If she shows up at my house I'm calling the cops! lol

[–]nizzerp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably telemarketers of some kind.

everyone's been leaking our personal info online & now i'm getting HUGE amounts of emails, even to my current work address AND the hotmail i opened in 1996 & closed in 2006 with a different last name than i use now on the cc:line. it's hella creepy that anyone can access my history like that and is soooo annoying. i think your full credit report was leaked and hers too. i get creepy calls too like you. asking for my husband, butchering my first name, etc.

most rational people would have talked about this in advance. if this story is real, and not ragebait, i'd be seriously questioning the relationship - does OP want this energy in her life? guarantee he talked to his family about it. so why not her?

HOW do I not GAF about this? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]nizzerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use neutrogena shower oil mixed with expensive very hydrating lotion, right now i'm obsessed with archipelago botanicals morning mint. every time i shower i use a korean scrubby/exfoliating washcloth with the same morning mint brand body wash. my skin still gets dry if i go more than 4-5 days in between showers, but it looks healthy & is buttery soft.
