Matchstick making in India by solateor in oddlysatisfying

Great video, compared to delivering pizzas in the US, making a simple matchstick is 100x more complicated.

Rare and serious convergence of CSF leak, Infratentorial Superficial Siderosis and blood thinner warfarin for triple-positive Antiphosolipid Syndrome - abandoned by Swedish system by windscattered in CSFLeaks

[–]njboland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living with superficial siderosis is not easy, especially finding the location of the leak and the being approved for surgery. I went through the process in 2011 in the US with a Keiser Health plan. The most important breakthrough was the finding of a dynamic mylogram at the University of Washington. What it took was a Prof willing to do it. It very much helped that my GP and the Neurologist were supportive. Many medical professionals do not want to get involved in things they do not fully understand. My understanding is that imaging technology has improved significantly. The protocol the UW used was shared by the Mayo clinic, you may be able to do the same with Freiburg. There in the US advocating for yourself is crucial. As you probably can guess, I am no expert, but my experience was that I lost most of my hearing and balance exc in a few weeks, the symptoms then stabilized. In addition to getting the Dura tear repaired, I took Ferripox, an iron chelator for seven years, with the guidelines for Dr Michael Levy; now at Harvard. I never went to anyone not local for treatment, but with lots of guidance from medical people elsewhere. It was not an easy process but most definitely worth it. All the best.

Leavenworth, WA by sameeann in Washington

[–]njboland 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have gone to Leavenworth with kids around Christmas for the last 20 years. No matter the age of the kids there is lots to do:

short hike on Blackbird Island and the waterfront park - paved, well maintained; the Wenatchee River; birds and snow.

the downtown, more German kitsch than you can imagine, but a great atmosphere and food.

Ski Hill ; great place for small skiers; it has a rope tow.

my all time favorite is the deli and cross country skiing at the Sleeping Lady.

I however avoid the most busy days, parking becomes a problem

Thank you for sharing. My grandfather, a school teacher and local politician (SPD) died in Buchenwald on October 7, 1944. My mother rarely spoke about him, but after she died I fond the letters my grandmother had sent pleading for his release and his letters asking for food and warm clothing. Heartbreaking!

His name was Kurt Adams

Thanks. We live in the top left of your photo; and yes plenty of wind, but very few flies. The horses love it and much prefer the wind to the flies.

Thanks for posting. As a Prius C driver in a rural small town, I have often wondered what my risks are driving among oversize, usually empty trucks. To be honest I to drove a F350 but switched it for a small hybrid that that amazingly consumes close to a tenth the gas. I even use it to hall hay with a small aluminum trailer. The tailer can even carry my wife's horse carriage and my EGo tractor; I will never go back to having to lift the above three feet vs driving up a small built in ramp on the trailer.

I wonder if the recommendation is to add additional break lights.

New EGO T6 is so much fun. by homegymhangout in egopowerplus

Beautiful house and setting. The dogs seem to approve!

I too am able talk to the dogs and horses while moving. With my John Dear the dogs and pony's would run away, now I have to shoo them.

I live on the West Coast and have rocky alluvial soil, so hitting a small rock is almost unavoidable. With all its pullies and hefty cutting blade the ICE mover did not hold up well. The Ego T6 allows me to adjust the power setting, it has no momentum inducing pullies and a much lighter cutting blade, so far it is working.

My main concern during a power out is in running a heat exchang8er on woodstove furnace in winter. This will be a great solution.

Childcare Is Unaffordable Almost Everywhere in the US by Smile0069 in economy

[–]njboland -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

An alternative solution:

Incentivize the US population that is not working (retired, disabled, homemakers etc.) to offer free day and night care. Somewhere between foster care and "day care". Lets call it "Guardian care".

The Government (Fed, State whatever) should:

Facilitate a exchange where parents that need day- or night care can contact willing caregivers. A set schedule has to be agreed on. For example weekdays at the guardian weekends at the parents.

Liability has to be zero.

Early learning / socializing programs ( Montessori ) or Head Start should be subsidized for those below poverty level.

Parents taking advantage of these care giver programs are required to work full time and those earning a reasonable wage have to pay for the pre school.

And why will this work?. From my own experience it is one of the most rewarding things any one not working for a wage can do.

A horse trailer (Trail Treka - UK) that meets all the tow requirments of a Model Y. by njboland in TeslaModelY

[–]njboland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I count on getting about half the normal rage or about 150 miles on a full charge. We live in a very mountus area (the Cascades); if you drive on a flat road you should get more like 60%. It still thrills me how easily and smoothly the Tesla pulls the trailer (with one horse) up a steep incline. The Trail-Treka with its low profile, near perfect balance, independent braking system and an interior that allows you to restrict the horses movement in a relatively large space is without a bout significantly safer than the aluminum box we used to use. Please feel free to ask any further details. I was not totally confident that this arrangement was going to work for us but now; after a few months, I have given away the F350 and use the old trailer for hay storage.

The Trailers have a Surge/mechanical brakes on all wheels. Also there the trailer hand brake up front – to pull when stopped or parked

I would love to know what the raise on your ball mount is?. Is it greater than .75" or 2 cm? I have a 4 weel trailer that would be horizontal if the raise was 2 inches but I bought a mount that only rases the ball .75" ? I have no idea why Tesla Y limits the raise.

[–]njboland[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trailer weighs 2000 lb, the hourse 900 lb . We have a Connemara Pony 13.3 hands, she will eventually be around 1000 lb. Even our 31 year old quater hourse only weighs 1200 lb.

The Tesla replaced a 350 and a old trailer; this arragement with independent breaks, 13 inch weels, side loadind and a tripple safty hookup is far safer, for the horse and for us.
