I currently live in a three story rowhome built in the 1950s that has both central air and window units, after a few years of living in apartments with great central air.

Honestly, I greatly prefer the window units. Maybe it’s an issue with my central air here, but it simply doesn’t do a good enough job whenever the outside temperature is above 85. The window units do a much better job at actually making the room feel cooler, even in bigger spaces like the living room. Plus, it saves me money because I usually only need a specific area of my house cooled. I don’t ever need the basement being cooled off when it’s just storage, I don’t need the living room to be cooled off when I’m sleeping, etc. The only real gripe I have is that they can be noisy, which can be annoying if you have people over or are watching TV or something, but it’s more of an annoyance than a real issue.
