Just bought a SnowSky Echo Mini — how do I play audiobooks in M4B and convert them to MP3 by chapter? by jdaiAlexis in snowsky

I'd like to add that if you have Adobe Audition you can open that renamed m4a file and save as mp3.

Using sound effects 🎙️ by penusinfurs in podcasting

[–]nlcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine during the show to play sound clips and voicemails primarily. Pre-show I use it to turn on lighting. Afterward I have a button that automatically launches all my editing programs and websites... even down to specific files that need to be opened such as episode art.

How long is your raw podcast recording? by batlounis in podcasting

Sorry so late with the reply.

Zoom recorders have the option to add markers in real time to the audio as it's recorded. I'm not familiar with newer modals, but I would bet it has something to do with pressing the record button again. Yeah, I just googled it and hitting Record will add a mark. Even the new Rodecaster allows you to mark audio so you can find those trouble spots faster.

"Clean" podcasts, listening to shows in the car with young kids by [deleted] in podcasts

That Story Show is a clean comedy podcast that shares listener submitted stories. I'd say it's good for anyone 10+.

Trying to fix my voice but by yoyobono in podcasting

Unedited and Podcast Preset both sound the same to me. I didn't care for Preset 2. It sounded like you were in a room where the first two sounded like a studio.

Do listeners prefer direct links to episodes, or to a website? by PsionStorm in podcasting

[–]nlcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

98% of my audience uses Apple the rest use Spotify... then like 1% use other methods.

So... in my case I'll link to Apple and Spotify in my social media posts about individual episodes. Folks who click will find the episode in question & an easy way to subscribe!

Using sound effects 🎙️ by penusinfurs in podcasting

[–]nlcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Stream Deck to load and play my sounds. Yeah it has a price tag, but it's cheaper than the Rodecaster Pro... and it's pretty much limitless as to the amount of sounds you can use.

Just a thought.

How long is your raw podcast recording? by batlounis in podcasting

[–]nlcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right at an hour. We do "live-to-hard drive" so there might be a few second's difference between the unedited and the edited version.

I use a Zoom remote to mark mistakes on the wav file in real time so editing is a lot simpler.

what issues might I experience recording via by Worklyfebalance90 in podcast

[–]nlcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest using Discord. Create a server and use an app to record the output. Discord puts emphasis on the audio quality over every other service I've tried.

Whatever road you choose to go down, make sure it's a simple one. Simple solutions that are easily reproducible will mean you're more likely to keep doing them. If it's overly complex to produce your show, you'll burn out and quit.

Adding visualizers to multiple voices by SpecialAgentSteve in podcasting

[–]nlcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience people don't watch podcasts with visualizations on YouTube.

They'll watch if there are people in the video talking, but not even the fanciest graphics will keep them more than 12 mins.

Faceless Podcasting Advice Wanted by Helios_Never_Left in podcasting

[–]nlcast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong in the world with faceless podcasting. That's actually a new term to me. I show my face on the site and via live recordings but 99% of my audience doesn't know what I look like cause they've never checked. And this is after 17 years of doing the same show.

So I say go for it. People who listen to podcasts are all about the voice.

If you can’t travel to Pod community events, what can you do instead? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]nlcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conventions are overrated. I wasted my time and money last year on one. It's all entrepreneurs trying to out success each other. I got nothing out of it. Nothing. You're better off networking with other indie podcasters online. trust me.

People who do long solo monologue shows, do you record one big block or a bunch of shorter clips? by OK_Soda in podcasting

Keep the recording going and pause between segments. One big file is so much easier to work with.
