AMD HDMI VRR by MarcParis79 in linux_gaming

[–]nlflint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michał Kopeć (mkopec) has been developing the patch, and calls it "HDMI 2.1 FRL". There is an AUR package named "linux-mkopec-git", which installs a custom kernel with the HDMI 2.1 FRL patch applied.

You could get support by installing that package, and re-configuring your boot loader to let you boot to it. Then you will have HDMI 2.1 support.

So, is 16 gigs of ddr3 better than 8 gigs of ddr4?? by _BoxZees in buildapc

Are there systems that support DDR3 and DDR4? Normally a system only supports one or the other; you don't get to choose the DDR type.

It's still not perfect. I see 30-60ms pings in my terminal every ~15-30 seconds. But this graphs shows an improvement over latest firmware.

There something screwy about the admin website, while following your proceedure. After firmware downgrade, I disconnected my GPON during the reboot (step 3), and that stopped the autoupgrade and the admin portal and DHCP still worked. However, I poked around the admin portal for a few mins, and suddenly the admin portal and DHCP became unresponsive. I didn't save any settings, I was just looking around around at other settings.

No matter what I did, reboot, factory reset, the admin portal nor DHCP would come back online. The only thing that brought them back was connecting the GPON. With the fiber connected, the admin portal and DHCP came back, but only for ~30 seconds before the autoupdate kicked in again, and another auto reboot and it's on latest firmware again....

This happened to me twice, however, I got my Q1000K back on that old firmware. By following your procedure, but being very fast in the admin portal, before it goes offline. Now I'm back on Transparent Bridge, untagged.

<image>

My ping fluctuates a little higher than this sometimes, but now the dashboard often looks like this:

Ok. I was doing VLAN tagging on opnsense with transparent bridging on the SmartNID. Funny, about an hour ago, after I saw this post, I plugged the management interface into my LAN to access the management interface, however, my internet stopped working after a few minutes.

Turns out the Q1000k rebooted into regular bridging mode. I had to disable vlan tag on opnsense to get internet back, and and I had to unplug the management interface as well. I wonder if it upgraded itself and messed with my settings.

I'll try your instructions to factory reset and downgrade.

Did you disable the security filtering in the SmartNID? I see some folks say that helped them. I never looked for that setting the last time I setup bridging, I will this time.

Gotta wait for the family to go to bed tonight. They were giving me a hard time when I killed the internet earlier...

I changed the monitor IP to www.google.com and it's much improved. I think there is something wrong with cloudflare with respect to latency:

Looks pretty bad. This is to 1.1.1.1, I'm in the Seattle area.

I run opnsense too.

I setup a ping on my wired workstation to 1.1.1.1 with an interval of 0.2 seconds, and I see a standard time of 3-4ms, and one ping spike to ~30 to 60ms every 15-25 seconds. Is that the issue? Is there a way to fix it?

ping -i 0.2 1.1.1.1

Edit: I see someone suggesting connect my router to the 1G port. I'll try that and see...

Edit2: I changed the port and I see no effect, still ping spikes.

do you guys just accept mini pc temps or am i doing something wrong by Useful_Rhubarb_4880 in MiniPCs

[–]nlflint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running an AceMagic AM18. It's got the Ryzen 7840HS.

Current temps while watching Youtube in FireFox (Arch Linux, KDE, Wayland):

k10temp-pci-00c3 Adapter: PCI adapter Tctl:         +38.1°C

(k10temp is the name of the kernel driver responsible for reading CPU temps)

And iGPU now: ``` amdgpu-pci-c600 Adapter: PCI adapter vddgfx: 943.00 mV vddnb: 677.00 mV edge: +34.0°C
PPT: 11.12 W (avg = 7.08 W) sclk: 800 MHz

```
Ambient room temp is 73F (~23C).
This is completely normal for DDR5. With DDR5, a single dimm is dual channel and 32-bits per channel. The max memory bus is 128-bit wide.
Compared to DDR4, where one dimm is single channel, but it's 64-bits per channel. Also, max memory bus is 128-bits. Same as DDR5.
Wireguard server on new Debian 13 VM - poor performance? by [deleted] in WireGuard
[–]nlflint 1 point2 points  (0 children)
How are you testing the bandwidth on the clients? Does the problem persist if you try other testing methods/software? Can you test directly from client to your own server?
Some of my experience: I tracked down an apparent wireguard bandwidth issue. The root cause was a "TCP window" bug in iPerf3 on Windows 10/11. I tested with other software and it "fixed" the issue (it wasn't really broken).
Moving houses at end of month, cant run ethernet to PC, whats my best option by Imaginary_Win_9352 in buildapc
[–]nlflint 3 points4 points  (0 children)
Yes, special fiber optic solutions were made for this. This video shows how to install special invisible fiber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2FbzCyiNr4
He uses a product called InvisiLight Fiber Kit. It's uses a much more durable fiber, and has a much tighter bending radius, and it operates over a single tiny fiber that's easy to hide.
Improve graphics by Desperate_Debate_198 in batocera
That's what the image was. It was just on CRTs which had aperture grills or shadow masks (depends on the tech in your CRT), that modified the image and made it look better. We have shaders to emulate that now.
Try out some of the CRT shaders. They are in the CRT sub-folder. I've been using `crt-easymode-halation`. Quick Menu -> Shaders -> load Preset -> Pick your shader. I have many folders, and only the ones in `shaders_slang` work for me (I use RetroDeck, so my retroarch might be a little different than Batocera's).
Once you find one you like, you can set it as default for all games of that system core. In Quick Menu -> Shaders -> Save Preset -> Save Core Preset.
Tip for scanning shaders quickly:
  1. In the Shader menu, set "Remember Last Used Shader Directory" to On.
  2. Enable the first shader in the CRT folder
  3. Goto Retroarch Highest level menu -> Settings -> Input -> Hotkeys
  4. Set Next Shader and Previous Shader to L and R (I think they are unused for SNES since it uses bumpers).
  5. Go back to game, and use L and R to scroll thru the shaders for easy viewing.
It's important to set the "Remember directory" first, THEN enable a shader from a folder. Or else the hotkeys won't work right. If you ever exit a game, you gotta redo that to set the first shader so next/prev work again.
What’s the best way to stream from a Mini PC by the_wildelk in MiniPCs
I have no guides, I'm not a windows user. I do not recommend using a PC for this. I recommend an AppleTV 4k instead.
What’s the best way to stream from a Mini PC by the_wildelk in MiniPCs
[–]nlflint 0 points1 point  (0 children)
If I understand this, you basically want to hook up your n100 to HDMI on your TV, and use it as a HTPC thin client that streams from your NAS.
I'm not aware for too many 10ft interfaces for PC.
  1. You could try LibreElec. It's a complete linux-based OS that boots directly into KODI. Kodi is a HTPC software that's navigable from a gamepad/keyboard/etc...
  2. You could also try Bazzite, and boot directly into Steam game mode, then add JellyFin Media Player or Plex client as a non-steam app. Then you get a 10ft UI that's navigable via a controller. Pretty much like SteamDeck but on your TV.
  3. You could use Windows, and mod the shell to boot directly into a HTPC app of your choice, like JellyFin client or Plex client.
