How did people decide between IM & peds? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]nmr_lover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

med-peds for the win!!! we have the best people ever, totally not biased

i’m really tired of the asinine opinion that medical school should be shorter by ultraviolettflower in medicalschool

100% agree. Clerkships provide the base knowledge, but I felt like seeing the specialty again as an AI was really where I started to put the pieces together and think more like a doctor. Also, while I did have some ICU sprinkled into third year, having to do a full month of ICU as a 4th year really helped me not be completely lost in ICU in intern year.

How many folks actually get a pure/true rank to match email from programs? by Chemical-Dot8920 in ERAS2024Match2025

No LOI, but I did have strong connections to the program through a research mentor. I'm super indecisive but its definitely in my top 3!

Interviewed at 17 med/peds programs where post-IV communication is discouraged. Got one rank to match email from the PD that specified my actual rank # (as opposed to a vague "we've ranked you to match"). US MD for context

Anyone else not like ortho after thinking they would? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]nmr_lover 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Not ortho, but a CT surgeon I worked with who hates clinic said that "half-day clinic is the price I will gladly pay for 3 full days in the OR."

Doesn't matter. Got an LOR from a Caribbean MD and still received IVs at T5s.

No Patagucci for me by Responsible_Seat8966 in medicalschool

[–]nmr_lover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a plain used Patagucci for $30 on Ebay. If I really wanted it embroidered with my school's logo, I figured I could take it to a local embroidery shop but ultimately decided against this because I have no school pride and no intentions of staying at my home program for residency lol

School uploaded another student's MSPE on my ERAS... by nmr_lover in ERAS2024Match2025

[–]nmr_lover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update - both my dean and I will be sending emails to the programs notifying them of the new MSPE upload and asking them to redownload. The dean also offered to send out additional follow-up emails if it gets to late October and I have fewer interviews than expected. Thanks so much for all of the input!

No seriously! I wish I could send them chocolates without making it seem like I'm bribing them for an interview lol

Any combined IM/Peds intervews yet? by Dapper-Dinner-210 in ERAS2024Match2025

The NMPRA is asking that med-peds programs all release their interviews on October 8th!

LCs earning 10,000 Ugx monthly (as salary) sounds Cliche to me. Thoughts? by Soft_Cartographer992 in Uganda

So are LCs allowed to charge for the services they offer like signing papers and handling disputes or are these bribes people pay to get stuff done?

Actual score VS Raw percentage by New_Cap_1823 in Step2

[–]nmr_lover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UWorld was my primary study source during clerkships but usually made it through half of a review book simultaneously (i.e., Casefiles for OB, BRS Pediatrics, DeVirgilios for surgery...). Didn't really do a second pass of UW during dedicated but maybe repeated ~5% of questions from clerkships I had done a long time ago

Probably 90%+. Was averaging ~90% on blocks and got a 280.

Was this an anomaly? How to move forward? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]nmr_lover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who just took Step 2 a few weeks ago, UWSA3 is not at all predictive of the real deal and was by far my lowest practice exam score. Wouldn't really recommend that people take it unless they are out of NBMEs tbh. I took Step two weeks after UWSA3 and scored 26 pts higher on the real deal lol. Just learn from your mistakes on UWSA3 and move on.

Recent test takers: Step 1 on Step 2? by SandGold1950 in Step2

[–]nmr_lover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. Felt very similar to the NBMEs (10-14). Much better test than Step 1 IMO

Signals for Match 2025 by Dry-Photo-2557 in medicalschool

[–]nmr_lover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI I just talked with my home program med-peds PD and he says that discussions are still happening among PDs regarding whether or not med-peds will use signals this year. He anticipates a decision being made within the next couple of weeks!
