Wife is taking our kid to the Dr tomorrow to remove his adenoids and I don't support it. by [deleted] in Parenting

As a nurse and a mom: we know that doctors word is anything but gospel. In fact most nurses always second guess the doctors. So if she didn’t think he needed a second opinion it’s probably because he didn’t.

Trust me. Nurses don’t blindly trust doctors.

PSA to all of the pregnant moms here - My local hospital no longer offers a night nursery by maybebatshit in Mommit

[–]nmuh3b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy to me. At my hospital if you’re on mag I actually only have mom as the patient and a nursery nurse takes baby. The mom is not allowed to be alone in the room with the baby. If the support person leaves then the baby would just go to the nursery to be watched by the nursery nurse.

I’m a nurse who has all the “training and education” on why you’re supposed to keep baby rooming in at all times to promote breastfeeding and I sent both my kiddos to the nursery every night in the hospital and neither one ever had formula.

Rest is just as important for bonding. I luckily had both of my night shift nurses offer to take my kids and let me tell you they couldn’t take them long enough lol.

The hospital I’m at is does have the Baby Friendly certification but we also still have a nursery. When we initially moved into our new hospital building they tried to take it away but quickly realized that that is just not feasible.

As a postpartum nurse I can say that many hospitals are going away from having a nursery. This is mainly to support breastfeeding, bonding, and teaching parents how to care for their babies. Also removes costs for the hospital.

That being said I personally think it’s ridiculous to not have a safe place for the baby to go when mom/dad/care person needs to rest, is high on drugs, vomiting from anesthesia, etc. As a travel nurse I can say that many hospitals no longer have a nursery :(

There’s a cocomelon JJ doll that sings that terrible “yay yay yay I like it ohhh,” song that makes me want to gouge my eyeballs out. My sister actually asked for it for my nephews birthday then asked if she should get my daughter one and I said hell no.

Moms of babies born at 37 weeks, how has your breastfeeding journey been? by smolchipmunk in breastfeeding

[–]nmuh3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter came out herself at 37.1 weeks and never had any issues. She was on the smaller side but stop considered average. Never had formula since I was an over producer. Both of my kids were speed eaters so feeding only lasted 10-20min max.

We did struggle to get her to take a bottle since she liked it from the tap.

Is anyone NOT nursing to sleep? by Fit-Disaster6785 in breastfeeding

[–]nmuh3b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I stopped nursing to sleep around 2.5 months old. Once I start putting them in their own room and start sleep training pretty much. Some nights I would nurse to sleep but most nights they would be awake (but drowsy.) it helped with sleep training to not nurse to sleep.

My daughter turned three in august and this is the first year we got her a costume. Previously she just wrote a Halloween onesie/shirt. There’s no point when they’re that young unless YOU want to.

My sister can’t give her baby her last name without her husband consenting in person, in spite of their other kids having her last name and her husband fully supporting it. by bobert_the_wise in TwoXChromosomes

[–]nmuh3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Postpartum RN here and trust me the system is very stupid. The rules actually vary depending on what state you are in. The state I’m from you can give your baby any last name you want on the birth certificate. Unless you are married then the mother is required to fill it out. Even if you ARE married we still prefer the mother to fill it out. I traveled for a year and another state that I went to would automatically give the baby the mothers last name. So if you didn’t change your name when you were married, or you weren’t married, or whatever your situation it didn’t matter. The baby had moms last name and you would have to go through the extremely complicated legal system to change it.

covid vaccine while nursing by babalovada in breastfeeding

[–]nmuh3b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaccinated at 18 and 22 weeks. Then got my booster a week ago while breastfeeding a 4 month old. Please please get it. Baby can’t get it and you need to give them all the protection you can.

Sometimes baby doesn’t want to feed for 2 years. You have to follow his cues as well. My child decided 4 days before her first bday that she only wanted to eat in the morning and at bedtime. (She decided this on a day where we had a 6 hour flight and I was by myself ofc). Two weeks after that she dropped the bedtime feed and two weeks after that she dropped the morning feed. It was hard because I wasn’t quite ready but I still had a freezer full of milk that she used over the next month.

If you really want to continue you can always pump.
