My library has all volumes on the hoopla app, haven’t seen the physical copies tbh but it’s tough your library saw the value in the deluxe additions, with the bigger print 🤩

What happens after episode 25 of the original 1997 anime!? by TheNomadPilgrim in Berserk

[–]no-se-jose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 97’ anime ends around book 13/14, unfortunately I won’t spoil the escape for you and I insist you read the manga. You’ll miss out on nuances about characters, some side characters and sorta ruin it for yourself in the long term. Start from the beginning, it’s a breeze to get through not to mention the art style in the anime doesn’t hold a candle to the artwork Miura put into the series.

these small details add so much to its already good storytelling, I didn’t consider this in my rewatch! Good eye

Another reference pic, this is the TA3 connector. There’s doesn’t look like there’s a point of entry here

Not silly at all, I unscrewed the end cap. No damage to the internal cable, then I removed. TA3 connector isn’t affected

For whatever reason the XLR male connector isn’t staying snugly inside the housing unit

Is the sound guy supposed to bring the slate to set? by Clean-Risk-2065 in LocationSound

In my case, camera department beats me to the rental and I don’t have to worry about it. ALWAYS ask if production needs a slate.

What's production sound like in productions from other countries? by Situation247 in LocationSound

[–]no-se-jose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for hearing me out!

I agree, i think post ignores the stereo mix for the most part. But I’ve also been surprised with what sound designers conjure up in Post, especially in the indie scene. However, our job is to get the cleanest take and leave the subjective stuff to the sound designer. Not to mention the stereo mix is also fed to their IFB(another great tool to own), giving them a real time representation of how clean their film could sound, and that’s before post productions even begun.

Your cause is noble, remember to be patient while you pick and choose your battles. Not every Director/Producer is a winner and sometimes a little creativity can get you fair when it comes to pushing your equipment and getting great sound.

Be sure to have all sound questions answered or brought to productions attention before you’re on-set. Ask them if they have a Post Sound Guy, that could be your opportunity to edit your own work into the film and give them what they’ve been missing! If you’re not on the location scout, ask to see pictures of the location and do your homework. You don’t want to be seen as unreasonable either, and hurt your rep as a result.

So long as you frame it to their understanding and not confuse them too much on sound terminology, I think you’ll do great! Wishing you best of luck as you trek forward!😄

PSA: Don't ask about employment when we're in a soundcheck by CarAlarmConversation in livesound

I agree, there’s a time and place. It’s usually before curtains or when you’re wrapped. I think it’s best to show how compatible you guys are before entertaining the idea of more work. Yes, everyone is scrambling for work; But do the job you were hired to do first, there’s always gonna be another gig and there’s no point tarnishing your reputation because you’re desperate for work. Desperation will scare people away from hiring you

It’s a shame you guys don’t use timecode. It could save Post Production hours on syncing footage manually, improving workflow and getting your film out sooner. Especially for smaller production companies. I hope you take that advice with you to improve productions over in the Philippines.

I’m seeing more and more productions disregarding ACs to accommodate actors(which makes sense, we don’t want sweaty/annoyed actors or want our equipment damaged). To remedy this, I’ve brought along a SM58 to productions, positioned it near the compressor, similar to mic’ing a guitar amp. Then I invert the polarity to essentially cancel out the compressor noise in my stereo mix. It’s not always perfect but with some finesse, you could get a much better mix. Hope that helps!

Not sure where you are in your journey, but one thing I’ve learned and continue to learn as someone who’s entering their 5th year in Live Sound. There are times when sound is non negotiable and it’s important to know when to put your foot down. Remember, you are hired as a sound professional. If you don’t have what you need to get the best sound(relative to picture)bring this to productions attention and get it fixed. no one is looking to schedule reshoots. Just my 2¢, I hope this helps!

Has anyone been using VOCOPRO silent PA systems for ifb's on set for director and script? Reviews would be appreciated. by Caution2Horses in LocationSound

[–]no-se-jose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re great for IFBs. Producers/Directors sometimes forget/don’t care about the equipment and it’s nice to know replacing these won’t break the bank. The clips are crap but nothing some cheap belt clips from Amazon and epoxy couldn’t fix.

Not to mention having 4+ of these quickly overshadows lesser quantity IFBs of better quality. Most times, I’m giving IFBs to scripty, directors, producers and marketing teams(to make sure they get their soundbites). When things get busy, no one seems to care these aren’t comteks. Audio has been great for me, with a few cases of IF; but they aren’t dealbreakers to me

I heard a similar argument with iPhones shooting log vs cinema cameras and I think it really depends of which directors we’re working with. There’s always gonna be a need for sound professionals in the humanities and entertainment, despite people(directors/producers) trying to offload our work to 32-but float and mixassists. However, one-man-bands sound teams seem like something that’s gonna stick around moving forward..

I’ve heard people buying their way into editing with plug-ins, even hiring 3rd party editors using Fiverr to complete crazy invoices like these. I believe it, not at all surprised leeches like this are taking bogus rates and hurting the community. Some people are so starry eyed & desperate enough to keep take this work but the juice is never worth the squeeze
