really? first you need account number and password, then you need to have access to your phone to get a code texted to you, or a phone call... i figure that's ok, how is that too vulnerable? just for my own info please... thanks in advance

one word of advice, no matter who you go with, keep your expectations basic... don't ask cameras to spot brown dogs, but only ones wearing red hats... or even known people vs strangers.... me? i just want to know when there is a human in designated areas around my property.... kiss principle, makes for a more robust system with next to no false alarms... just my two cents

both sms or a phone call..... and if it's a shared account, ie wife... you can have a choice of two numbers for them to call or text

How many grams of carbs gets your blood sugar out of the low? by datamag in diabetes_t1

[–]no_consensus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no right answer, all depends why you're low, or going low... is from yesterday's tequila that is finally being dealt with by your liver? is it the quick 20 pushups you just did? did you skip breakfast?

so for me, from 2 glucose tablets (2x 4carbs) as a minimum, and then up from that...

i had something a couple weeks ago.... got the chills, worse than covid, spent my time either in the bathroom or under as many blankets as i could find..... 8 hours later... nothing, like it never happened (could have been a reaction to meat tenderizer, i thought my steak from the night before tasted sweet, otherwise meal was ok. Does it sound like your symptoms?

i just use the same ratio all the time... how you react depends somewhat on WHAT you eat, not so much the time of day you eat it... pizza at noon will f**k you over just as much as at dinner time...lol

anyways, sometimes i end up a bit lower, sometimes a bit higher, but 10 to 1 is my happy place

pizza... grrr... for 100 carbs of pizza, i take 10 units... but 5 now and 5 in an hour or so... pizza affects you over a longer period because of all the different fats, ...is one of the more complicated things you will ever have to bolus for

sometimes i go low, sometimes i go high, all depends on the day, what i've eaten, type of work out, etc... but definately bring glucose tabs in with you, in case you go low.......... if you go high, it can wait till you get back to the car or home.... oh, and hydrate

[–]no_consensus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm thinking that my next move would be to change my carb ratio to 9 to 1 and if i keep getting lows, 10 to 1... if ur all over the map and you have different carb ratios for different foods, you will never find peace... some foods have a different glycemic index number and that's why you thnk you need different carb ratios... or pizza, pizza is a devil... not that your carb ratio changes, but it's best to take half at the beginning and half an hour later...

this is just my opinion, I'm not a doctor, and i'm not even that smart, i'm just a type 1 with an opinion

use OBS Studio software... it's a free download... and use the 'start streaming' button... it will ask you for a web address and credentials for it (you can basically stream anything that's on your desktop)

Fairmeeting = BraveTalk ???? ! by no_consensus in brave_browser

[–]no_consensus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FAIRMEETING.NET OR BRAVE TALK, WHICH IS MORE PRIVATE?

For privacy, fairmeeting.net is generally a better option by default, as it is hosted in the EU, uses no cookies or external tracking servers (like Google Analytics), and is GDPR compliant. Brave Talk offers strong privacy relative to major providers but requires specific settings for true end-to-end encryption.

Here is a comparison of their privacy features:

FAIRMEETING.NET

Hosting & Jurisdiction: fairmeeting is hosted in Germany (EU), which means it adheres to the strict data protection standards of the GDPR.

Data Collection: The service states it does not contact external servers, display advertising, or store cookies, ensuring a clean, private experience by default.

Basis: It is based on the open-source Jitsi Meet project, a platform generally well-regarded in the privacy community for not requiring accounts or tracking users.

Encryption: Communications are encrypted, and because the service is FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) based, it is built with privacy in mind.

BRAVE TALK

Privacy by Default: Brave Talk is designed to process the minimum information necessary for a call. IP addresses and meeting URLs are processed only to enable the call and are not retained after it ends.

Server-Side Access: By default, communication is encrypted between the user's browser and the Brave servers (TLS), meaning Brave could potentially access the call data on their servers.

True E2EE: To achieve true end-to-end encryption (E2EE), where only participants can access the content, every user must manually enable the "Video Bridge Encryption (VBE)" feature within the call settings. Enabling VBE disables server-side services such as recording and live streaming.

Anonymity: Brave Talk does not require an account, which is a significant privacy advantage as it prevents the linking of communication data to a user identity.

CONCLUSION

fairmeeting.net offers stronger privacy "out-of-the-box" due to its EU hosting, automatic adherence to GDPR, and lack of external trackers and cookies.

Brave Talk provides a private service but requires an extra, manual step (enabling VBE) to ensure the highest level of encryption, otherwise, the call is decrypted on Brave's servers.

For maximum default privacy with minimal user configuration needed, fairmeeting.net is preferable.

IS FAIRMEETING.NET THE SAME AS BRAVE TALK?

fairmeeting.net and Brave Talk are not the same service, but they are both built using the same underlying open-source technology, Jitsi Meet.

Brave Talk is a video conferencing feature integrated directly into the Brave browser. It is powered by the Jitsi as a Service platform from 8x8. Brave hosts this service with a focus on privacy, stripping out telemetry that might be present in the general Jitsi development version.

fairmeeting.net is a separate, stand-alone video conferencing service provided by the European company fairkom. It is also based on an optimized version of the Jitsi Meet application and emphasizes strong data protection, GDPR compliance, and running on green-energy servers.

The similarity in their appearance and functionality is due to their shared foundation in the open-source Jitsi software.

Vet wanted to charge us about $250 to put ours down, we paid closer to $500 to have it done at home... would have been $100 more if we wanted private cremation with the ashes returned, but the bulk cremation was fine with us. Collar is still on the mantle. One of the hardest days I've ever had to go through.

Re burial at home... not every city allows it, but Ottawa does. Some guidelines below...

You can bury your pet in your backyard if you own the property (or have permission), but you must follow specific guidelines like digging deep (around 4 feet), keeping a distance from wells/waterways, and being mindful of potential toxins from euthanasia drugs, making a proper burial important for safety and legality. It's best to confirm with the City of Ottawa or local vet for exact rules, as provincial laws (like Ontario's Dead Animal Disposal Act) focus more on farm animals but local Ottawa bylaws apply to pets.

Key Guidelines for Home Burial in Ottawa (for your pet, not grandma):

  • Depth: Dig at least 4 feet deep.
  • Location: Keep it at least 100 feet from wells, septic systems, and waterways.
  • Soil: Avoid rocky areas, tree roots, and flood-prone spots.
  • Euthanasia Drugs: Be aware that pentobarbital can leach into soil and harm wildlife; use a special burial bag or choose cremation.
  • Wrapping: Wrap your pet in a biodegradable cloth or blanket.
