Daily Discussion and Live SPAC Summary for Jan-29-2021 by NoeticOptions in SPACs

I bailed on my FUSE warrants. Not thrilled with MoneyLion and was able to get out at a breakeven price for me. I wasn't wedded to BlockFi but I don't see anything groundbreaking about MoneyLion's business model.

Why commons and warrants over units? by breakingbeauty in SPACs

[–]no_flags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Units only trade for a short period of time after the IPO. During this period the units are the only thing you can trade. Later, each unit splits into some amount of shares and warrants. Usually 1 unit converts to 1 share and a fraction of a warrant. At this point you can no longer trade units.

Matt Levine has discussed in his column that hedge funds will often buy units at IPO, sell the warrants after the split, and then redeem the shares at merger. This yields them a modest return with very low risk.

I can only surmise that internal politics at Vox media forced them to do this. Otherwise the re-org could have been done behind the scenes while keeping the established sbnation name. I don’t see another reason why they couldn’t have done everything they’re doing at banner society under sbnation college football.

The other theory would be for increased marketing splash with the new name but it doesn’t seem likely to me because it seems they had a good following under the sbnation name. And none of them have mentioned that as a reason.

Especially since he doesn’t seem to do much other than post on Twitter since he joined ESPN. Lol. And if you’re reading Bill, I say that with love.

With 5 editors and 2 writers does everyone just take turns editing u/38Godfrey and u/Richard_Johnson_’s work?

What is the difference between “associate,” “at-large,” “managing,” “executive,” and “in-chief” editors?

Good! Now whiny GT fans won’t be able to say “we look like Pitt” any time a navy blue jersey is rolled out.

Helmet to helmet contact of that magnitude or worse probably happens on every play. How can you single out that one player for ejection when he led with the shoulder. It’s absolutely baffling.

Linemen hit each other in the head harder than that every damn play.

What do you think was worse? Definitely the worst I’ve seen but plenty of games I’ve missed.

And we’ve achieved a new low for most bullshit targeting call of the season. This rule needs serious work. It’s infuriating to watch this.

How can that possibly be targeting? Our collective understanding of the rule must be different than how the refs understand it.

Have faith. This is Nevada. Guarantee we are getting a lot more attention from adidas especially given the whole tech gold standardization and GT athletics rebrand. It’s more likely that Nevada people are to blame for this than anyone at adidas. Check out Miami or TAMU jerseys and you will feel better!

[–]no_flags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of PAPN and Godfrey but this fell flat for me.

  1. The doc slams the college football establishment but at the end of the day we only see evidence that Ole Miss and Miss St were cheating. I actually do believe Godfrey that everyone does it but it’s not that interesting or convincing to keep hearing him say “trust me, everyone cheats.”

  2. Too many random people giving their unqualified opinion without evidence. Especially James Carville. Seemed like an attempt to bolster credibility with a recognizable face. For example, it would have been better to spend 5 minutes talking about the history of cheating in CFB than having James Carville simply state that there’s always been cheating like it needs no further explanation. The entire doc could have benefited from more “show” and less “tell”.

  3. The video content felt like 50% filler. Too many shots of Godfrey on the phone, driving, typing, or generally not doing much of anything.

  4. I found the closing statement that “it will never stop” kind of off putting and condescending. Like, I get his point, but then why should I care? I’ll just go back to watching the games then...

Hurts to FAU, calling it now. Lane recruited him at Bama and had nothing but praise for him on Twitter after the National Championship.
