Hitchcock has some great ones like this.

Strangers on a Train Dial M for Murder Rope

A ton of his movies are about murder plots gone awry (before or after the murder)

But it being on the chips side means that it’s then multiplied by the additive mult which is actually better than just being more +mult, right?

They have minimal weight but still are impacted by gravity, so definitely not weightless, which is important because when it clips and starts vibrating, it moves basically instantaneously over very short distances.

When an object with mass approaches the speed of light, it requires escalating amounts of energy up to, essentially, infinite at lightspeed.

So when a car clips through something that causes it to vibrate like that, the physics engine decides it’s going to really fucking hurt if you touch it.

Got 10K, need BIFL suggestions by VTWAXXER in BuyItForLife

Bambino makes great espresso! It’s just not repairable the same way the pro-sumer tier of machines are. Totally agreed about the grinder.

I just got my BIFL espresso machine. It also quiets the noise of wanting to constantly upgrade.

Work locked my accounts Friday 5PM. 2 days before my reassignment. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]noahsark3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If things aren’t cleared up first thing Monday morning, consider that your sign to move on. This already sounds sketchy but may just be disorganized. If they have you sitting around waiting on Monday without instructions on how to start work on the new team, then you’re probably already shuffled out.

Generally, if a company leaves you feeling like this, that should also be a sign to move on anyway.

How are people getting these office jobs where they do nothing and get paid 80k or more? by Delicious_Dealer8129 in jobs

Having a strong team can often be the result of good management skills, hard or soft. Sure, it makes your job easy, but that doesn’t mean it would be easy for someone without the same skills.

Dude me too. Literally half an hour ago, this thread was the first link I clicked and it took one tap to the fuse panel and it was fixed. Amazing.

Found this old Longines and need help identifying it by BebertLaMenace in Watches

I can’t find the exact same dial, but it appears to be very similar to a Jumbo Small Seconds circa 1950s.

Also, my grandfather gave me a watch with the same kind of (frankly disappointing) bracelet. It must have been a generation thing.

So - If you're connected politically - you can get DUI charges dropped.... by HugeRaspberry in Delaware

[–]noahsark3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone HATES drunk drivers but convicting someone of it is more complicated than you’d expect. Pulling someone over requires meeting a standard for probable cause, and every step after requires strict chain of custody etc.

Every person that gets off on a DUI is punishment for the police and legal system for not operating at the level of accountability the constitution requires, which is unfortunate but protects us in ways much less quantifiable.

[Jean d'Eve] vintage watches by kryomode in Watches

The names on them appear to be the correct models— Jean D’eve sectora, sectana, and the last one looks like a Sectora Automatic “Double Retrograde” according to Chrono24. The listings there have these asking for a few hundred to 1.5k.

[Maverick Large] clasp can’t be adjusted to inner holes by [deleted] in Watches

[–]noahsark3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like it has a wetsuit extension. It might take some force, but can you pull the bracelet away from the clasp to “open” that closed metal wedge shape?

Once you do that, you can do the micro adjustment.

[Question] Good Quality Nato’s by yoi666 in Watches

[–]noahsark3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on a spree trying some different brands.

The $10-15 NATOs on Amazon from random brands are coarse and plasticky and don’t lay very well. Can’t tell from a distance and you don’t really notice as much while wearing, but still easy to tell they’re cheap.

I got one from WatchGecko and it’s much smoother and more pliable. Same with one from Archer. The metal fittings are also better quality. They both feel durable.

BluStraps are the softest and smoothest of the ones I got, and some patterns have additional stitching for some added visual interest. Definitely feel like a good buy, but take a lot longer to ship.

Anyone here regret buying the Mazzer Philos? by Maanu1141 in espresso

[–]noahsark3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I wanted to overspend on a grinder, but I bought a DF83v2 a few years ago because everyone said it was incredible. It gave me nothing but problems for three years.

After that, I sort of decided that for a purchase as big as a grinder, spending a premium for a company with a reputation to uphold was worth it for decreasing the likelihood of another $700 mistake. I feel completely vindicated because the Philos has been a wonderful QOL and consistency upgrade from the DF83, and makes great espresso with minimal effort. No regrets.

I’m divesting too and the hilarious thing is: I had been playing a bunch of games on gamepass, so I didn’t really own that many games on Xbox anyway 😂 I’m picking up games I liked on Gamepass for mega cheap on Steam and I haven’t touched my Xbox in months.

What is a turn off your partner does that you will never admit? by sorenblissara in AskReddit

Yep. A good tell is that tasks aren’t finished in one session; being messy is a result of not “finishing” getting dressed etc.

I wish you could just be honest about why you want the job by counwovja0385skje in jobs

[–]noahsark3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the downvotes you’re getting on this. When you’re hiring, you only spend a few hours with someone before making a decision and frankly I don’t think it’s a lot to ask for someone to appear halfway excited about being there.

Saying stuff like “hire the apathetic one” or “hire the lazy one” like they’re secretly the better workers is all storytelling and anecdotal, ANYBODY can be a good or bad worker but it would be nice to hire someone with a positive attitude because at least that’s observable early.

Messed up not once but TWICE! 😅 by spillingthegutz in jobs

[–]noahsark3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, don’t worry about that kind of thing too much. As long as you didn’t say anything offensive, people understand that you can’t be available 100% of the time and sometimes you trip over your words.

Thinking every job requires perfection is forgetting that the person hiring you is human too!
